[COM] Re: Festival Plaza Redevelopment | $800 million

I'm calling it early, this chunk of the riverside precinct is going to look f**king awful. Why? A convention centre with three different design elements that barely intertwine with one-another, a low-rise office building with dated cladding that pops up behind the convention centre, a hotel buildin...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council

Some really worrying views being expressed by Cr Antic here. Dont even get me started on the fact that he cited the comment section of an AdelaideNow article as evidence in council proceedings :applause: :wallbash: The timing coincided perfectly with this article - http://www.citylab.com/commute/201...

Re: Infill Developments | Metropolitan Adelaide

Urban sprawl limit imposed to protect food production zone beyond suburban Adelaide A measure backed by the South Australian Parliament to limit Adelaide's urban sprawl will shrink house block sizes and drive up prices, critics have said. The Legislative Council has approved introduction of a bound...

[COM] Re: 176-186 Morphett Street | 59m | 18lvls | Residential

The proportions of this building are all wrong IMO... it is WAY too bulky, something that could've easily been rectified by using the materials to break up and delineate the northern and southern facades (cheap) or even constructing separate towers (expensive but ultimately ideal). Considering its p...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council

They wouldve been marking out the space today with subtle stainless steel studs (and chalk). There were bikes parked there later on in the day and it should be fine to use from tomorrow. Disappointing that the council workers didnt fully explain any of this or what they were doing though.

[COM] Re: Victoria Square Upgrade - $24m

Cant see this working unless someone has the balls to reduce the roads down to 2 lanes of traffic... max. Would even go as far as suggesting 1 lane and for access to be buses (as much as I hate them) only.

Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development

Regarding Hindley Street: the paving (though obviously unsafe when wet) did a great job on improving the aesthetics of the street so this is such a shame. It is even more frustrating when you consider that the average speed around here is probably close to 25km/h anyway. Its an extremely short sigh...

Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development

Thank God. That whole paver debacle is a complete joke. Terrible decision to spend so much money on these dangerous pavers, and they were destined to be ripped up eventually anyway. The traders are kidding themselves if they think a 10km limit is an appropriate solution. Disagree. Hindley St West s...

[COM] Re: Festival Plaza Redevelopment | $800 million

That doesn't actually look too bad imo, reminds me of OMA's recent apartment tower in amsterdam. In such a prominent location, the worst thing would be for an attention seeking highrise building that sticks out like a sore thumb. Sometimes understated simplicity is just whats needed. The most import...

[U/C] Re: 145-159 King William Street (GPO) | 60m~ | 15 Levels | M

there is no tangible relation between tall (150m+) buildings and liveable/vibrant cities. In my opinion I would even go as far as suggesting the opposite. Take Tokyo, for example, where the best areas of the city could be anywhere between 3 and 6 stories and usually no more than 10-15 stories wherea...

Re: Beer Garden

Hi all, hopefully this is the right place to share this video - its by an urban designer who had a lot to do with kick starting Melbourne lane-way revival. He talks about the 'fine grain' of cities and why lane-ways are not necessarily the answer for Sydney (and Adelaide) and has a fantastic discuss...

[PRO] Re: [PRO] 13-20 East Terrace | 23 Levels | Mixed Use

I am all for progress but that area of shop fronts is really nice... looks like a nice old building as well - it would be a real shame to lose it. IMHO very little of what gets built in Adelaide has enough architectural merit to warrant replacing what is currently there. Having said that, very littl...
