Re: Commonwealth Games in Adelaide

I sincerely hope the folly of a railyards stadium isn't the factor making the bid uneconomic. There are surely other options that aren't nearly as expensively engineered. And I have to say, I think there's a small reputation cost to not proceeding -- it'll seem like yet another pissant decision fro...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Just on our rolled-gold Botanic Garden extension, the planted medians have already become overgrown with metre-high thistles. The same can be said for the Elder Park stop, the big garden beds at the end of the tracks have no plants whatsoever and have exposed sprinkler piping... Been this way for w...

I just hope that the railway station gets an upgrade too ready for the new development but I won't be holding my breath
Wow, I only just noticed the station in the photo - it's that devoid of any facilities or shelter.

Personally. If I had a property near South Road, and I was going to have my house acquired, without the need of a hard sell in an undesirable location, I'd be throwing a party. I've often thought that as well. The people I feel sorry for are the ones who used to live 50 meters away from South Road ...

Re: The SA Politics Thread

No, but if a car is kept solely for the purpose of commuting (which many second vehicles would be) then the depreciation of the car should be taken into account when comparing private vehicle use vs Uber etc. It is a cost which would not exist if the car was not owned.

Re: The SA Politics Thread

To fill up a car, say 50 litres, can range from $59 @ $1.19/L to $84 @ $1.69/L. Using Uber, from Henley Beach it will cost $24-$32 per trip. $48 a day. $240 a week minimum. Blair Athol to the CBD - $20-$27. $40 a day. $200 a week minimum. Brompton to the CBD - $14-$19. $28 a day. $140 a week minimu...

Re: The SA Politics Thread

I think whilst Rev has a valid point, there are certainly many households who undertake none of these activities and a own second car (probably their primary car too) which is only ever used to commute a relatively short distance between one family member's home and place of work. The same trip ever...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

As much as I like rail for sentimental value, the fact is that buses are more flexible and solve any complaints of congestion. The best solution in Adelaide is Bus Rapid Transit. I don't understand why it's rarely suggested. All the main roads should have BRT in the middle of the road, at least for...

The glass is awesome - very reflective and looks very different in different lights. I reckon this and Realm will be two of the most visually pleasing developments the city has seen in recent years. Here's the same photo as the one I posted above, taken a couple of days later. https://i.imgur.com/pI...
