Here's the current exterior for anyone who's not familiar with it.

why wasn't it great?
It was a tired and run-down topless bar which closed due to low patronage.

probably to prevent students from throwing themselves over the edge
It doesn't extend round the whole perimeter so I don't think it's that.

Re: News & Discussion: Other Metropolitan Developments

Another pub (albeit not a great one) bites the dust to be turned into offices and "a cafe or restaurant or something like that". Still, hopefully the historic facade will be restored - the current building isn't particularly inspiring. Land of Promise acquired by developers looking to retu...

A few pics from today. It looks to be externally pretty much complete with the temporary site buildings and associated infrastructure being removed. The roof space looks interesting - there's a big net being erected so I presume there's enough room up there for ball games. https://i.imgur.com/PZwZkI...

Re: Cycling lane from Brighton to Largs Bay along the coast

It's hard to see where there would be the space though. Building on or even disturbing the dunes is a big no-no.

I'd like to start with the basics and see a decent continuous shared pathway along this route.

Re: News & Discussion: Cycling

its clear it can cope with one lane each way Apart from access to the Wilson car park that is. I saw that creating relatively long queues on several occasions during those works. @whatstheirnamesmom - Do you remember if the right turn lanes for people accessing the car park from the south are being...

Re: News & Discussion: Cycling

This is actual construction, which is meant to be beginning today. Bike SA and Bike Adelaide have been reporting this. I viewed the tender documents a few months ago, I assume not too much has changed in the final design. From Rundle St to North Tce we'll see a copy/paste of the bikeway as it exist...

Re: News & Discussion: Cycling

Have just received the below message at work. Can't find much on the ACC website and it's not clear if this is actual construction or just preliminary work. Fingers crossed though... From now until October, there will be traffic delays at various times on Frome Road between Rundle Street and Albert ...

Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development

This. Aside from a clean the only work that needs doing is removing the square background behind the logo (completely unnecessary), and better resolving the ground level on both sides to better connect to North Tce and the riverbank. Completely agree - it's grown on me massively over the years and ...

[COM] Re: Festival Plaza Tower 1 | 115m | 27 Levels | Office

I personally love the number of native trees in areas like this, for an area trying to attract tourists and visitors it's so very Australian. There's a real level of cultural cringe some people seem to have, wanting things to look like a European city. We're Australia, should play that up. But the ...

Also. to be effective shade-wise in the middle of summer, they would have to be between the path and the river.
If they were right on the edge of the park then they should shade the path once the canopies reached a decent size.

Whilst I don't have an issue with those gum trees, from historical pictures I've seen it appears the northern edge of Elder Park along the Torrens used to be lined with London Plane trees - perhaps as late as the 1970s/80s. I presume they were removed when the path was widened which is a bit of a sh...

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail

Whilst I really loved the original building I decided to reserve judgement on the Myer Centre upgrade until it was complete as, in general, I've found some of the more initially controversial proposals over the years have actually turned out OK in the grand scheme of things (the Yugo student buildin...

The police horses have been relocated and site clearance has started. I think the cycle safety centre closes in a couple of weeks: https://i.imgur.com/tI5pBrG.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/CuxBBuB.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/LtnyLPL.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/2umyjB2.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/JbbBVi6.jpeg
