Re: Recent Earthquakes in SA

Earthquakes are quite common out Callington way and throughout the Flinders Ranges. If you visit Arkaroola, be sure to check out the seismograph in reception! When I was there last year (or was it the year before?) they had a printout of an earthquake that had happened a week before we arrived.

Re: Natural Burial

"I want to be stuffed and put on the couch as a constant reminder of our marital oath." - Homer Simpson Can you imagine how much CO2 is produced by India alone for its cremations? Depends on how the bodies are cremated. If they're burnt with fossil fuels then it might be a problem,...

Re: Taxi protest causes peak hour like CBD congestion

Remember the story from last year about the immigrant cabbie who drove up the hills freeway on the wrong side? I'm with Rev 110% on this. We have standards and they need to be enforced or raised if they already are being enforced. "Generalisations" that Rev may be making are most probably ...

Re: Parliament Houses of Australia

It reminds me of something you'd see in Indonesia. It reminds me of the Brisbane International Airport terminal as I whiz by it on the Airtrain. Melbourne's parliament building is by far the best in Australia and I agree that Brisbane's ranks second and Adelaide's third. I had a look around the Fes...

Re: Stateline ABC: tram story

I love trams but why such an idiotic mistake when we had the chance to excel? Any answers? Rushing to get them in time for an election, that's what. They're in now, are popular and have revitalised the heart of the city. That's a sort of intangible result that will pay off in other ways in the futu...

Re: Bloody Call Centers

I've banged the reciever on the table a few times as well as saying I was going to put them through to the local Pizza shop. I have also asked them to "please hold" and found them on the line 15 minutes later. These days I talk dirty and see how long they stay on the line before hanging up.

Re: Sunday Mail: Job seekers' spelling shockers

English teachers apparently don't mark students on their spelling, punctuation and grammar these days, instead they mark on the "ideas they are expressing". Heaven forbid you hurt their feelings for telling them their spelling is wrong! Install Firefox, install the British spelling diction...

Re: Different places; different paradigms.

Interesting video of the bicycle commuters in Copenhagen. The sheer quantity of bikes is amazing. I'll say! It certainly makes you think what might happen if the ACC had used the money they spent on that "solar" bus to instead install a buttload of bicycle racks around the city and buy a ...

Re: Ideas for a greater public transport system

Any thoughts on boring a new train tunnel through the hills to Mt Barker? Dare I say it, you'd be able to shave a fair amount of time off the trip to Mt Barker, and also enable passenger services to Victor via Strath and Goolwa on the old Steamranger line. It would most probably bypass the existing ...

Re: Hewett: New Residential Area

people can live where they want, you wouldnt even look at Hewitt or Freeling if you wanted to live in an apartment, some people want space (at the cost of less services) that's life By the looks of the photos it looks like any generic suburb from the last 15-20 years. Small blocks, cheap houses, no...

Re: #Official Mining Thread

I didn't realize that was a hostile takeover Xstrata launched a hostile bid for WMC and BHP then made a counter bid, which I suspect may have been the government calling in a favour as there was some real concern about the money behind Xstrata. Four Corners did a story on it: http://www.abc.net.au/...

Re: Adelaide rail system fact sheet

Junction with freight line at Goodwood causes delays to peak-period Noarlunga trains.
Level crossings impede traffic flow and compromise safety of motorists and pedestrians.
Adelaide Station prevents more frequent services because it's a terminating station.

Re: Article: Rann's Hospital vs MHS Entertainment Precinct

lol but seriously i find the stands at the mcg to steep Welcome to any modern stadium. Docklands and the Gabba also have steep seating so that everyone can stay close to the action. I haven't been to the SCG or Stadium Australia in Sydney, but I'd hazard a guess that they're the same as well. Footy...

Re: Why the Gawler line needs to be upgraded - NOW!

So is the goal of the submission to simply make the govt realize that 1200 people (S-A members) know quite a lot of detail about the flaws/risks/dangers in the current rail system, and want change to occur? or something else For a fat and comprehensive paper that would be good. I'm more keen on the...
