Re: SA Liberal Party unveils its plan for Adelaide railyards
Thriving, successful cities are bustling because of the successes of the various economies within it. Retail economies, manufacturing economies, tech economies, creative economies, cultural economies, financial economies, knowledge economies, these are the elements of the cities that we want to emu...

Re: #PRO: City Busway - O-Bahn to West Tce
Colour me unsurprised that they don't even have a plan for it. Colour me surprised that it would cost $61 million. The O-Bahn is the Clayton's railway. Despite the fact that it is well patronised, overall it is a failed experiment as it hasn't expanded beyond the one track and is still the only one ...

Re: 08/09 state budget announcements
I've read over it and I have come to the conclusion that the budget is shit because the negatives and missed opportunities outweigh the positives. Increased taxes, levies and government charges with barely anything good. It is a purely reactionary budget to counter the gains the opposition has made ...

Re: Peak Oil and Adelaide
The thing with nuclear energy and the environment is you need to consider the complete life cycle of the fuel,T from mining, to producing the fuel rods (or similar) to running the fuel, reprocessing, post processing and finally storage and disposal. Every stage produces some kind of radioactive gas...

Re: Peak Oil and Adelaide
Yeah, increasing oil prices will drive inflation, but Germany ran on coal-to-liquids during WW2 and South Africa did so during apartheid so it's proven tech and is economic - it's just that it costs more to produce than pumping oil from the ground. (I believe there's a company looking to establish a...

Re: Peak Oil and Adelaide
The thing about Peak Oil is that it doesn't account for other sources of oil - tar sands, shale and coal. There are huge reserves of those things, but they aren't economical until oil hits a certain price. Even then, they won't be developed until all the cheaper to produce oil is consumed. One thing...

Re: Why Mono is now opposed to developments over 15 floors high
Tell the building owners to contact OTIS! We're really pressed for room, plus it's a heritage listed building. Going up and down the stairs a few times a day isn't really an issue - keeps the blood circulating - and most of us work harder than that in the gym :) We do ask the bosses for a fireman p...

Re: 08/09 state budget announcements
Theres more to West Lakes than just AAMI Stadium. Like one of the largest shopping complexes in SA and the growing number of mid/high rises going up in the suburb. I still think it's a huge wasted opportunity not to build a new city stadium. West Lakes the suburb could be adequately serviced by bus...

Re: South Australian police to trial taser stun guns
I hope that Tasers will be treated in the same manner as firearms in that if they are used then an investigation must be conducted. They're not non-lethal weapons, they're less-lethal - as we saw in a few well publicised cases overseas last year they can be deadly to seemingly healthy people. The da...

Re: 08/09 state budget announcements
Mixed feelings from what I've seen so far. While electrification is to be applauded, I was hoping that resleepering would be stepped up before electrification so it could all be done at once and a good deal could be done on an entire new fleet of trains. Is there any funding for engineering studies ...

Re: Adelaide City Council and West Torrens Merger talks
the city is the city and to have people as far as Adelaide Shores voting on what will get built on say Rundle Street seems a little strange. People who say live and work on Rundle Street should have more of a say then someone 15 km's away. Stuff like that already happens - people in Coromandel Vall...

If this is how much you complain about going DOWN stairs I'd hate to hear you complaining about going UP them instead!

[DEF] Re: AAMI Stadium to recieve a $100million facelift
Has anyone actually considered the other side of this discussion? And that is that a stadium in the city would attract less people on a consistent basis simply because Adelaide people being what they are often stay home if they can't drive and park nearby. People generally don't take public transpo...
