Re: A Discussion about Tolls (on roads..)

. When it eventually becomes inadequate we can build a tollway under the Morphett Road corridor Furthermore Aidan, I'm a bit confused by this. Part of your discussion is about a freeway on South road being "overengineering" and too much expense, and yet here you seem to acknowledge at some point in...

[PRO] Re: Fast trains planned for Adelaide's south

I think if the announcement had been that funding was being provided for the planning stage of a future Seaford Aldinga extension, rather than the more sensational headline grabbing 260km/h trains rubbish, then it would have had more credibility, and not offended those whose projects had been canned...

Aidan wrote:When it eventually becomes inadequate we can build a tollway under the Morphett Road corridor, which would serve the airport directly as well as being a shorter route between the southern suburbs and the port.
Gee, that won't cost much.

Re: A Discussion about Tolls (on roads..)

to get into the city, you will save approx 4 minutes. There really isn't enough justification for spending the huge ammount of money to build a freeway as opposed to a non-stop controlled access 60km/hr road, despite a vocal minority. I dont believe the entire transport industry(one of the largest ...

Re: A Discussion about Tolls (on roads..)

But most Adelaide residents don't want a freeway wrecking our inner suburbs Where do you get this from? Whch Adelaide residents out of the whole af Adelaide. Most people i speak to are SCREAMING out for a freeway. Most of the inner suburbs you consider will be wrecked are light industrial, except fo...

Re: A Discussion about Tolls (on roads..)

Aidan, As I have enjoyed this debate, I wish to point out that I dont dismiss your options out of hand. I just think they are options which should have been implemented 20-30 years ago and by now we would be looking to (as required) upgrades on this route with the benefit of hindsight. As this is th...

Re: SMH - Rann's vision shows the way in economic renewal

for the record, I too voted for Rudd as I thought it time for a change..but it is not Kevin who is leading this government (nor it would seem Julia) and as for the current shambles being offered up all sides is..., well let history be the judge. I mearly stated things were in comparison, pretty good...

Re: A Discussion about Tolls (on roads..)

[ Actually the traffic lights here are sequenced. If indeed Adelaides lights are sequenced, they have done a very poor job of it. That depends... do the major new developments have buildings right uo to the edge of land? The community centre being constructed by West Torrens counclil opposite the br...

Re: SMH - Rann's vision shows the way in economic renewal

No, but the pair of them have spent tens of BILLIONS on useless non economically viable projects instead of better infastructure and handed out cash for people to buy flat screen TV's in response. It is only the mines that keep us afloat. At least Jerry Harvey was happy with the result.

Re: SMH - Rann's vision shows the way in economic renewal

I remember this one: "working families in Australia have never been better off" - then Prime Minister, John Howard, 2007  a classic out-of-touch line from pollies. . I am a working family, and if I remember rightly, things were better off back then- probably the best ever....until Kevin07 and ...

[COM] Re: U/C: Rundle Place Ben/Adel Bank, Harris Scarfe, Coles 76

IMO more effort should have been put towards the exterior of this shopping complex. For example take a look at the recently built Wintergarden Plaza in Brisbane. Amazing I wasn't a big fan of the exterior renders especially the Grenfell St frontage and now I know why. Could not agree more!!! :appla...

Re: A Discussion about Tolls (on roads..)

the enormous amount of property acquisition and demolition required would be socially unacceptable simply upgrading existing South Road with grade separtated intersections would require a lot of land aquesition anyway. South Road in sections thorugh Melrose Park cannot be widened any further withou...

Re: A Discussion about Tolls (on roads..)

I think if a comprehensive plan for a full North/South transport corridor Port Wakefield to Victor.. with a timeframe say 30 years construction, and equal amounts spent on a North /South commuter rail line using the new freeway alignment negating the need to change trains in the city ie a limited st...

Re: A Discussion about Tolls (on roads..)

The discussion atm seems to be focusing on using tolls to fund the roads. I think that tolls serve two equally important purposes, funding the roads and putting a price on using the roads. Imagine if water in SA was "free" (paid for by the taxpayer). Do you think we would have a greater or lesser s...

Re: A Discussion about Tolls (on roads..)

I work in an industry which relies on fast efficient movement of trades and materials. I also work in other state offices. I can assure you all, the road system in Adelaide, peak hours aside is the most inefficiant. Appart from a short time in peak hours the freeways of Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth...
