Re: News & Discussion: Trams

The mess and cost that was the most recent extension has put a halt to these extensions for now. I don't think the general public really embraced the last extension, and the Libs will not lose any votes by putting a stop to any further at this stage. As others have pointed out, unless the cost can b...

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway

I think both parties committed to finishing the North-South corridor in their previous election campaigns. I also remember reading the cost of tbm [tunnel boring machines] have come down significantly that made tunnelling a possible and now a more viable option here. I personally think that all the...

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway

It would be political suicide to knock down the thebby. Everybody loves that theatre (apart from maybe a couple of people on this forum). Btw, I signed and the petition has hit 50,000!!! I saved thebby theatre. http://chng.it/rmCzbsQjDj So 50000 people, including you have been sucked in by sensatio...

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway

I'm really not understanding the hatred of the Thebby on here, it is a significant venue and a massive cultural contributor to this city. Of course there was going to be a response to any threat to it. If it's "a demolition that will never happen", then why can't the government just come straight o...

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway

So there is a change.org petition going around about "saving the Thebarton Theatre". People already have their panties in a bunch about a demolition that will never happen. Does not bode well for anything other than a completely buried tunnel through here, regardless of how well a trench might mana...

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway

I had some fun with Paint and had a crack at how a tunnel under Henley Beach Road could work. It's pretty crude, so if anyone wants to redo it in CAD, feel free. On such an alignment as this, less than a dozen heritage properties would be affected - and these are only classified as 'contributory' (...

[U/C] Re: SkyCity Adelaide Casino Expansion | 55m | 12 Levels | Hotel

Could it have anything to do with marshal scrapping the riverbank committee or whatever it was called last year. Around the time the bridge was built there was dispute over who was going to be paying for upkeep, with the council saying they couldn't afford to take it on board. Suspect it's sat in a...

[APP] Re: Adelaide Oval Hotel

And ironically, just on the hotel, the only mention on Perth media relating to Adelaide Oval recently (aside from the obvious AFL) was an update of the pending construction of the AO hotel. No mention in this clip about destruction of the magnificent architecture... just what a unique and popular ad...

Could brighton station also be removed, leaving one new mega "brighton" station to replace Brighton, Hove and Warradale, situated under or over brighton road.
Would make sense, given all the shops and services on Brighton road. Space for adequate parking would be required though.

Thanks for all the photos. This is moving along quickly now after such a long wait for it to even commence. The new casino is so needed. Now if they could only clad the concrete sides of the intercontinental next to it in reflective glass.. it has always looked so unfinished and will really be the u...

[APP] Re: Adelaide Oval Hotel

If the discussion on this thread are anything to go by, the arguments against retaining the hill are completely unfounded, and as for the Commonwealth Games bid, Glasgow and Gold Coast both built a temporary stands over their hill and I suspect the same will happen in Adelaide because it's cheaper,...

The whole discussion re the Northern end may end up being resolved one way of the other anyway if Adelaide hosts the Commonwealth Games. I'm not sure the hill ticks all the boxes for opening/closing ceremonies and track and field viewing.

Thanks for the pics. But really. Is that concrete structure what all the fuss is about?! They made sound like some beautiful old stone bridge.

[APP] Re: Adelaide Oval Hotel

Yep, the design of the Adelaide Oval redevelopment is, to me, functional at best. It's lifted up by the quality of materials, but I remember feeling what a missed opportunity it was that more of the oval's heritage wasn't brought into the future (the vines and bricks). The hill, however, is a stren...
