[COM] Re: #U/C: Victoria Square Upgrade - $24m

I reckon the key to the whole design was in the arbours. If the animation/renders are any guide they'll provide shade, windbreaks, a microclimate, an engaging performance area, and a remarkable sculptural feature. It's great they started the project, and achieved an incredible result in the timeline...

These current structures seem to be intended as shade houses rather than arbours. Do they intend to plant climbers on them? If so then we'll know that stages 2-3 are definitely a long way off.

[COM] Re: #U/C: Victoria Square Upgrade - $24m

Agreed Ben. The obvious strategic idea would have been to build the shade structures in the style of the final arbour. Then extend the arbour during a later stage when funds were available. Not only would they have been much more attractive than the current industrial-style and very temporary-lookin...

Wondering if the Creswell Gardens will be restored in time for the Stones/Showdown. Still a lot of work to be done on the eastern stand. Sure cutting it fine.

And all this from the people who tried to stop the Torrens footbridge.

If hospitals, expressways, medical research centres, universities, stadiums, bridges, convention centres, malls and squares all being constructed simultaneously in one city are small steps then what would you suggest might be a great leap forward? Many jobs have been created in all of these projects.

Good old Rachael Sanderson! Still I'm not seeing a huge wastage of money, I wonder how many people they got? I honestly thought it would have been Vicky Chapman. They would have got a lot lot less than the numbers crossing the bridge during the Test....voting with their feet. One of these named is ...

Thanks Waewick. What I meant is that we pay politicians of all persuasions and in all levels of government a lot of money through the tax system to lead and facilitate the advancement of our community and the enhancement of our environment, lifestyles and opportunities. Sadly a significant group of ...

Ask the Chapmans, Sandersons and Marshalls of this world to stand to stand in Elder Park and gaze upon all they spent so much energy and so much of our money to try and stop. Then ask then what are they for? The silence will be deafening.

@ Adelaide Alive

They must still be testing the lights I reckon. They had Crows colours right around the roof for a few seconds tonight then switched to green and gold.

Well said Vee. Totally agree. The potential that the bridge brings will surpass even the planners' expectations. The permanent cafes you mentioned are sustainable all year round. The next trick is to provide the infrastructure for the pop-ups without spoiling the riverbank effect. One very cheap and...

The arbors in Stage 2 will shade a lot of the concourses which will be paved in granite. Meanwhile the central grassed area, water features and the temporary shade structures should cool it down in the summer.

@ Monotonehell. Don't worry about the naysayers over at Adelaide Now. They're just a bunch of trolls from a certain political party who buzz around that site like a bunch of blowflies around a cowpat. This city is rocking. This building is awesome. The lights on top of the building are flashing toni...
