Re: News & Developments: Port Adelaide

I agree with all said except with the Shed 26 point. There are costings of $10m to remove asbestos/restore the shed etc and the developer has stopped and is open to community proposals etc ie put up the money and we will keep it and/or show us how it can be viable. Its now a case of those that are ...

Re: News & Developments: Port Adelaide

Well said Patrick_27. I’ve long dreamed of the Maritime Museum taking over Shed 1 (Fisherman’s Wharf) as well as the Customs House, Institute Building, Telegraph Station (currently empty pigeon toilets), and the vacant dock space next to the lighthouse, and building a massive state of the art mariti...

You do have to laugh at this architectural merit stuff.

It's an ok sports stadium.
Or you could laugh at a very less than ordinary hotel hanging off the front of your ok sports stadium. Thing is, it’s not that funny.

It’s a miracle that the Formby drinking fountain at the front of these buildings survived the bureaucratic vandalism of the 60s. A replica stands on site and the original is in the Port Adelaide Historical Society Museum at Peterhead. The original base of Mintaro slate and Macclesfield marble is sti...

Re: News & Developments: Port Adelaide

The Odeon Star cinema is just up the road in Semaphore, and Arndale and West Lakes are an easy drive...... Unfortunately I don't see a great chance of new cinemas in the Port unless there is a huge increase in population and that's a pity because movie theatres would improve the Port as a "destinat...

Well, I'm going against the general consensus here, i like it. I think the proposal compliments the existing infrastructure and is a unique addition. As for the whole "you cant build on the parklands" thing, large swathes of parkland are barren, useless dustpans. I think we should activate sections...

The first guest at the hotel will be Unnecessary. The second will be Mediocrity. Both staying at an Oval near you.....for a long long time.

I wasn’t trying to be condescending, it was a direct to the point question. On what grounds are you or I qualified to provide serious feedback on this or any proposal? How do you know the stadium wasn’t designed with the possibility of adding on to it as is the case with this development? The firm ...

Any news on when the landscaping is going to commence? The Port Rd/South Rd intersection is a pretty grim wasteland right now. The crooked goal post sculpture installation doesn’t help much either.

Here’s an idea Marshall and Olsen and co.. Instead of stuffing up the existing architecture and the event experience of millions (yes check it out..millions) of attendees who pay megabucks to go to the Oval over two years, how about building your must-have hotel as part of the Memorial Drive redeve...

-10 for the design. In the renders it looks like a clunky block of flats hanging off of what is currently a facade which is an enhancement to its setting and an impressive arrival experience for events patrons. Indeed the only feature dragging the proposal up to the lower levels of mediocity is the ...
