Re: News & Discussion: Road Issues & Traffic Congestion

While catering entirely to the private car is not ideal, unfortunately in a growing city, efficient large scale roads are going to be part of the equation. Depends where and how that growth occurs. If we continue the move towards medium-high density city, city-fringe and public transport corridor-b...

claybro wrote:or commit to spending billions on commuter rail
This is the key. I hope we don't see any more large-scale metropolitan road projects after the South Road upgrade as I'm pretty sure that the future doesn't lie with the private motor car to the extent that it does today...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

As a regular user of the Outer Harbor line I’d be happy with any mode of transport as long as it used a dedicated corridor and, most importantly, didn’t get held up by other traffic or intersections whilst heading into the CBD. I think the latter is more likely to put people off using public transpo...

Re: News & Discussion: Transport Projects

Obviously I’m not alone in this view amongst forum members, but it really dismays me at how short-sighted both politicians and half of the general public are on this issue. I don’t think it’s just ‘lefty moaning’ to hold the opinion that private car use cannot continue the way it has been over the p...

ACC have released their Draft 2015/16 Integrated Business Plan - you can read it, and submit your views on it here: http://yoursay.adelaidecitycouncil.com/Draft-15-16-IBP Have had a quick read through in my tea break - nothing revolutionary - lots of stuff about the 'back to basics' road, footpath, ...

Likewise.

And, without a driver, who'll be there to enforce the soiling charge?

Re: Driverless Cars

I love this idea - I used to enjoy driving but over the years it's lost its appeal.

Contrary to the article's suggestions, I won't be using the technology to "text, Facebook with friends, or get a head start on my workday". I will be using the technology to snooze more...

Re: Driverless Cars

I think the article suggests a move away from personal car ownership and towards use of a shared car fleet which can be scheduled or on-demand - something like a driverless Uber network. I think this is how things worked in that film Minority Report: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vrxyr1CjiSM ...pr...

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw

Although presumably if that happened the residents of Day/Euston Terrace in West Croydon would be a bit peeved about having a brand new yet disused overpass sitting outside of their front doors...

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw

My guess is this will be deferred indenfinately. we wont see electrification, heavy or light rail on this line any time in the forseeable future. Given the patronage on the OH line as it is, the longer this drags out, it would well be in danger of closing, with Port road wide enough to handle prior...

Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development

Sounds good to me - I think the parklands should be thought of more as 'outdoor multi-purpose recreational areas' rather than just 'parklands'. Agree no houses should be built on them, no industrial units, no commercial enterprises (although a few kiosks etc wouldn't be out of place) but anything el...

Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development

I hope the government one day will cover the train line and extend the parklands over it. As long as they put something in it to entice people in and not create a pretty but largely empty space in a prime CBD area. It would have to be something unique as with Bonython park just round the corner wit...

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail

So, just out of personal curiosity (think I asked before but don't think I got an answer) - the old Harris Scarfe space in the Rundle Mall Plaza building (above JB Hi-Fi) - how big is it? I never went in there. Is it big enough for a fairly big chain to move in, or just a small store area?

[CAN] Re: 135 South Terrace | 45m | 13 Levels | Apartments

I really like this one - it looks like a piece of mid-century furniture. Like the Eames Chair of high-rise buildings. Not so taken on the 'car in the apartment' thing - yes it works well with a gullwing Merc but my '99 Honda would look pretty crap sitting next to my kitchen. Don't get me wrong - I l...
