[COM] Re: Colonial Mutual Building > Mayfair Hotel

They've done an awesome job on that place - and I really like the jewel box too. Not sure about the funny gold curtains they seem to have put up at the ground floor windows now - but other than that it's a 10/10 from me.

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail

I really loathe this obsession with sticking the word "gourmet" in front of everything. That's one of the things I really noticed when I moved over from the UK several years ago. Until I came here I'd only really ever heard the word used was in the advertising of cat food. No jokes about the qualit...

[U/C] Re: News & Discussion: South Road / North-South Corridor

Removing level crossings isn't just about improving a route for cars. If done properly it helps to eliminate areas being divided in two by a line that can only be crossed every few hundred metres, and it improves safety for those on foot. The reason for the focus is that the line is already being e...

[U/C] Re: News & Discussion: South Road / North-South Corridor

I still don't fully understand the urgency to remove the Queen Street level crossing - it's just not a busy route, hardly even a through road. I can think of several level crossings on busy main roads which would surely be far more deserving of any spare upgrade funds.

Agree that looks awesome - I did think about arches when I read your last post. But - I don't see it happening to anything near as quality an end product as the one in the pics (presume those are heritage arches as opposed to a modern budget-conscious take on heritage arches) and I'm not sure there ...

[U/C] Re: News & Discussion: South Road / North-South Corridor

Not sure - it's really not a busy vehicle route - when the barrier's down it's rare to see more than two or three cars stopped there, even in peak hour. This part of Croydon has a great community feel about it - not just Queen/Elizabeth Street but the park that's right next to Croydon station. It's ...

[COM] Re: Victoria Square Upgrade - $24m

On a radio interview just before Christmas he was talking about the improvements to the Chinatown precinct and the surrounding area being a priority - he seemed to suggest that this would include further works to Victoria Square.

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Cheers for the quick reply!

This is awesome news - I regularly travel on the tram and it's so frustrating that the trip from Greenhill Road to Rundle Mall takes pretty much the same length of time as the trip from Glengowrie to Greenhill Road. This will make life so much better!

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Does anyone know if there has been a change to CBD traffic signal priority for trams recently? Yesterday I was cycling south along King William Street and and the light turned red ahead of me at the junction of Pirie Street and KWS. I quite often get stopped here and generally the traffic and pedest...

Re: News & Discussion: Public Transport

We went over to London in July and whilst starting with all good intentions to save money and get the tube everywhere, we ended up just using black cabs for the majority of our trips. We were on holiday after all... Despite being from the UK myself I haven't really used London cabs before and was qu...

A few days old now so you may have already heard it but here's the link to the 5-way Mayoral debate on the ABC: http://blogs.abc.net.au/sa/2014/10/who-is-going-to-be-the-next-adelaide-lord-mayor.html Not sure Goers is the most impartial of hosts (read: horrifically and unprofessionally biased) and s...

Re: News & Discussion: Buses

Skybus is fine - nothing too out of the ordinary, just an articulated bus with luggage racks and TV screens for tourism videos. Once you get to the city you can interchange to get a smaller bus to most CBD hotels. I think the advantage lies within its regularity - every 10 mins I think from directly...
