Adelaide Festival

Seems like we don't have a dedicated thread for the Adelaide Festival. The ABC has recently screened a behind-the-scenes look at the production and programming of the 2020 Adelaide Festival, its 60th anniversary. You can watch it on iview here: https://iview.abc.net.au/show/getting-their-acts-togeth...

Re: News & Developments: Mawson Lakes

Currently on the SCAP website proposed 12 level student apartment building at Mawson Lakes; at 13-17 Metro Parade. https://www.saplanningportal.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0011/662375/361-L020-20-online_docs.pdf Looks decent enough, hopefully they will deliver in the materials used. It will be...

Re: Forests & plantations

It's a good question, and not something I am particularly familiar with. My guesses are: - Bushfire risks - Lack of water resources & rainfall - Murray Bridge receives half the rainfall of Adelaide and Mount Gambier, and a third of Mount Lofty's total. The Mount Lofty Ranges act as a barrier where l...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Since you live in Perth, would you support the Fremantle Line being converted to light rail? No.- Why? 1. The Fremantle line does not terminate at Perth station. Perth station is a through station not a terminus, so trains from Fremantle continue on through the station to become the Midland line. M...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Wouldn't these be minor costs compared to the expense of converting the system from heavy to light? It seems like you're describing the ideal application, but we're not starting from scratch here. We have a legacy system with its own idiosyncracies. The expense of changing over si not that high...I...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Property development and transport planning should be complementary, but they're not in Adelaide. For all of the metro railway stations, every 200 m from the station should be zoned to allow medium density residential. Many development plan policy areas near train stations already allow increased d...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

This all gets back to the point that if we want lots of stops for small numbers of people each stop, then trams are the best type of vehicle. If, on the other hand, we want a fast service to the city, it's got to be heavy rail, preferably electrified with very few stops and large stations with lots...

The development of the new Bridgeport Hotel started a few months ago and is due to be completed in 12 months or so. Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

I am one of those people who favour closing stations, here is my list : Gawler Line Close North Adelaide as a train station (but keep and protect the heritage building) Remove : Greenfields, Nurlutta, Womma, Kudla, Tamblin, and Gawler Oval. A new station can be built between Muno Parra and Gawler i...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

The Gawler eletrification should also come with some modest line upgrades like crossing loops and station removals. We should be aiming for 160kph for an express line Remove Greenfields, Parafield Gardens, Chidda, Nurlutta, Elizabeth South New station at the A20 overpass to replace Tambelin and Eva...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

I think the Gawler Line will see many of the benefits electrification can bring since the stations are a bit more spread out and the track is straighter. There are parts on the Seaford line that are rated at 110km/h, including near Oaklands and the extension beyond Noarlunga. The Gawler eletrificat...
