Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses
Why can't the buses use the tram track to overtake? It's just another lane. Trams stop in the tram lane, which prevents buses from overtaking. A potential solution might be to have an overtaking lane for trams and buses, but move the tram stop to a side lane too. Trams would get out of the overtaki...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses
Maybe in the longer term a bus-only tunnel underneath Currie and Greenfell streets would work. I think there is a similar concept in Seattle. Here it could link up with the Obahn tunnel that emerges near East Terrace, and carry people across the CBD with stops near Rundle Street, KWS for tram conne...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway
Cross streets don't need motorway access if we have a tunnel. All that needs to happen is the occasional connection between the surface st South Rd and the motorway. I can't remember where I saw this, but I have seen some unique grade separation projects which involve putting traffic in one directio...

[COM] Re: Flinders Rail Link
Hourly service means few people will use it. Why spend so much on infrastructure and barely use it?

Re: News & Discussion: Regional Transport
Why not just go by rail to Darwin and ship it out from there? That way it's closer to the export markets. Build the Adelaide Hills rail bypass and ship everything in and out via Darwin.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses
It needs to happen. If Currie/Grenfell St changes to a bus only street, it would only need to be two lanes each way, so the footpaths could be widened.

Re: News & Discussion: Regional Transport
For Kimberley-Clark to get the full benefit, the line needs to be reinstated from their factory all the way through to avoid double handling. For the SA government, it has the problem that this proposal might increase economic activity for export from the Limestone Coast region, but if it does, it'...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Fairly confident Labor will at least have costed plans to extend tram to Prospect, and commit to Outer Harbor electrification. Potential feasibility study into extension of rail to Aldinga and tourist rail to Barossa (this would require a heavy subsidy from state govt., no doubt). Trains and trams ...

Yeah, I don't think our ticketing upgrade can be seen as anything but responsible and successful. It might not be the most advanced, but it was affordable, on budget and without disaster. I'm happy to have missed out on the slight benefits of higher spec tech to avoid the farces that played out in ...

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn
Park and ride just pushes the traffic jam back into the suburbs. The area surrounding O-Bahn stops should be transit-oriented developments. This is expensive real estate and car parks are for inexpensive real estate! transforming it into a TOD wouldn't suddenly make everyone who currently uses Para...

Re: News & Discussion: Public Transport Contracts, Service & Policy
It's rather ironic that interstate people were employed. This is the classic job market situation. I'm sure people applied that were from here and could easily do the work, but they just went for their mates. We also have people on this forum who argue that the government should hire experts in pub...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
The old Islington Workshops line at Islington Station, the most eastern line could become a bus interchange, you could build a road from Davenport Terrace and come out near Hungry Jacks, you could also add stairs / lift to the bridge. This eliminates the need for pedestrians to cross the ARTC track...

Qantas and Air New Zealand have done flights like that as sight-seeing flights over Antarctica. Very few people have heard of it and you'd think that would be more popular now. There's one company chartering a plane to do this, but not for a few months: https://antarcticaflights.com.au/ Adelaide Va...

Re: Should the O-Bahn be converted to light rail?
London DLR is light Metro using a third rail for power source....it is also totally grade separated. You can't have a third "live" rail in city streets. Yes you can! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground-level_power_supply Here's an example of it in Sydney: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wik...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council
What sounds like an Onion article, ACC has green lighted a “drivers month” to encourage people to drive into the city — instead of every other city that is investing in public and active transport. Door prizes for parking, allowing cars to use bus lanes, and happy-go-lucky marketing campaigns. What...
