Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Plenty of Infrastructure Australia business cases don't stack up and are done for political reasons. Then again cost-benefit analyses are limited by the assumptions made in developing them and are not very good at pricing in all positive externalities particularly in the mid to long-term.

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
So it's just been leaked that one of the unannounced infrastructure projects in the Federal budget is 185 million for the Adelink project. https://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/malcolm-turnbulls-reelection-plan-revealed/news-story/4c0814aed1033849c8c29b593043a086 It's paywalled. Can you give u...

Pure and simple
To have not replaced him in the following months resulting in the project falling into shambolics is incompetence

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
Wait already? Gosh this location is cursed. What was there before? That long bar that took over the two storefronts that are there now... You'd think restaurants in this strip would thrive. I wonder if it is an intransigent landlord/ rent issue? The product was good (all be it in a very competitive...

8 years ago. Maybe time to forgive and forget. Sorry, but that won't be happening any time soon for this little black duck. Very true. I am still amazed the major resource companies in this country aren't held more to account by the public. They extract billions of dollars of what is effectively a ...

Re: The SA Politics Thread
Also, Hydro - while renewable is effectively old-school base load generation You make that sound like its a bad thing? I'm not putting a value judgement on it (though Hydro projects are quite destructive from an environmental point of view) just that it's not part of the mix of emerging renewable t...

Re: The SA Politics Thread
It's not the overall size that counts its the % of generation within the grid. The real innovation and IP is in the control systems; how you mesh a large number of different renewable energy generation sources with storage and conventional generation to deliver power consistently, efficiently and co...

Re: 2018 South Australian State Election
Unfortunately SA liberals and their backers tend to be the worst kind of liberals given the continued predominance of a number of families who haven't done anything significant or productive since the land booms in the 1890s and now ride high on the hard work of their great-great grand parents. Mar...

Re: 2018 South Australian State Election
I think people are being incredibly harsh on the Libs. They aren't the Libs from 20 years ago. Has anyone bothered to look at some of the candidates? They have some impressive young and soon to be MPs who would all have been heavily invested in the polcies. They arent going to all of a sudden turn ...

Re: 2018 South Australian State Election
To benefit the state economy from mining, we need (preferably) established mining towns with miners who live there with their families and go to work locally (Roxby Downs, former Leigh Creek) or fly-in-fly-out mines with flights only to SA airports. Most modern mines are relatively short-lived vent...

Re: 2018 South Australian State Election
Labor has no focus on SME or small business (or regional growth), its focus has always been on a heavy public service and cherry picking tax payer funded business incentives to try and provide the look of growth. The state has also done nothing to address the population slump, they are actually aga...

Re: 2018 South Australian State Election
Thats the problem, talk to anyone in business and they would disagree with you. https://indaily.com.au/opinion/2018/02/21/the-state-of-the-state/ Thats a fairly basic summary of what the rest of the state is actually seeing. I guess my focus is on the prosperity of the state and after 16 years of n...
