Re: News & Developments: Prospect

Both major parties have committed to building a Prospect High School to cater for the on-going demand that's putting pressure on the Adelaide Botanic HS and Adelaide High School, this is the ideal location for it, both in size, road and public transport access. It seems strange that both parties hav...

[SWP] Re: Lot 14 (Old RAH Site)

Bit of a crazy thought, but what if the site set aside for the innovation centre were to become a Contemporary Art Gallery instead, therefore satisfying all parties involved re: Tarrkarri moving ahead. At this stage, the surrounding area is not benefitting from the severe lack of activity and the i...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

And this is what irritates me. In 2023, good public transport policy and infrastructure should be above politics, and not left to the mercy of elections. Will incessant urban sprawl become an electoral issue? This. As far as I'm aware, in no other state do either party come to the election table wi...

Nice shot. Imagine that view if the dome had been finished atop Parliament House! I’d love to see the dome addition still, something to be considered if and when Parliament House eventually undergoes any sort of exterior restoration works. We’ve seen upgrades to ARS as part of a history preservatio...

Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development

I was digging through my photos, and this was taken on March 4, 2023 from the Stamford Hotel on North Terrace, showing the RAA building in its relatively brief time without signage. I was struck by the fact that this is one of the only angles from which you can see almost the whole height of the bu...

[U/C] Re: Central Market Arcade Redevelopment | 130m | 39 levels

The hotel is going to be a ‘Treehouse’: https://indaily.com.au/news/2023/08/28/treehouse-hotel-to-put-down-roots-at-central-market/ Underwhelming brand for what should be a landmark location. Why they would go with a "chain" that only has 2 other hotels (in the UK) is really strange. http...

[U/C] Re: Burnside Village (Extension)

Having grown up around Burnside Village in nearby Tusmore, I can tell you that the reason for the limited bus services in and around this pocket of metropolitan Adelaide is the superiority complex of its residents and the perception that public transport is dirty and for students and migrants only. ...

I hadn't seen this one before.

Would have been nice if that plaza envisaged in that render came to fruition.
What are we getting instead?
This but taller, no?

Re: News & Developments: Port Adelaide

Great idea, but I can't help feeling they could have done something slightly more exciting from an architectural perspective. This one looks like it's been designed specifically to complement the Birkenhead Bridge. Agreed. I've come across more interesting bridges in Singapore that have the same or...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

A decent newsagent, maybe incorporating a post office. A pharmacist. A bottle shop. Stores that sell stuff people want to pick up on their way home. This. I see a railway station in the same light as an airport, what do people need that is convenient to buy immediately before/after their commute? A...

Fuck Malinauskas. This stalling is entirely political, it's not pragmatic as he's trying to sell it. When have Labor ever cared about cost blowouts on government funded projects? They themselves are notorious for it, and even if it did blowout, they would no doubt revert the blame onto the former g...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

Next plan should involve burying the tracks and have the concourse go deeper underground. Prep the station for underground rail, fast-track electrification of Outer Harbour/Port Dock. Then remediate the North Terrace frontage of the Convention Centre so that it actually has a North Terrace frontage.

:( Yeah, imagine if we had a large public square in the centre of Adelaide! Maybe you could even add some more. Can you imagine if we had, like, 5 squares spread throughout the CBD? Maybe another one in North Adelaide for good measure? But, alas... you fail to see the difference between a public pla...
