Re: Whyalla | Developments & News
Thank you for a clear assessment of my question: where does the carbon come from to make new steel from old iron and low carbon hematite? AFR said it won’t be from coking coal. The question you raise regarding the proposed developments at Whyalla is a valid one. The proposals for Whyalla are twofol...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Are two more depots really needed for what's basically more or less just one tram line? Where there any new depots planned for the AdeLINK expansion? The two more depots you speak of are as I understand: (1) temporary stabling and minor servicing facilities required to run trams in CBD during the M...

Wasn't that in relation to the Morphett Rd overpass which would prevent access to the existing depot?Llessur2002 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 10:03 amWasn't it mentioned earlier in the thread that this project includes a new depot at Hindmarsh or Thebarton? Perhaps that will be completed before the line is severed.

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Sounds to me that the entire tram network will be closed during the works as the South Road overpass is also going to be partially rebuilt to accommodate the North South Motorway. A media release on the project website speaks of a section of the line being closed. Jon Whelan, DIT CEO, was interview...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway
I don't understand the reason as to why someone would manoeuver onto the bridge, and then want to ascend down to the train station. Makes as much sense as the current inefficient road network, and the firing ranges in the country, where two oncoming missiles (usually cars or trucks miss by a tiny m...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway
Has anyone heard a good engineering explanation for why the bridge and platform don’t have a direct connection? It’s a steel bridge, is it in a significantly different place on hot days that make it impractical to install a working elevator for example? There's access to the train station from belo...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Marion is the sole ezample of a station underpass that was constructed in recent years to replace the foot overbridge removed for the Seaford electrification. The underpass has wider ramps and tunnel than the normal pattern of underpass found elsewhere on the network. Another modern trend has been t...

[VIS] Re: Passenger Trains to Mount Barker
The only good part of GlobeLink was rerouting rail freight on a new corridor east of the Adelaide Hills, rounding Truro and coming into Adelaide that way. This would be most ideal, because then rail freight can follow the (as yet unconstructed) Northern Connector corridor and go no further than the...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
I can't find any sign of a crossing. The one closest to Crozier Tce looks to be removed. These will continue to happen, unless frequent overway bridges are installed. I can't predict those in office spending billions to save about 50 lives per year though. It looked open on Streetview in 2021. http...

Whatthe77.jpg This is an interesting map of the Adelaide Metropolitan Rail Network before it contracted in the 1980s. The map is undated but must reflect the extent of the system between 25 Jan 1976 (when the Noarlunga line was opened to the temporary Christie Downs terminus) and 2 Apr 1978 (when N...

Looks like electrical or communications. Underneath the outside of both platforms are cabling racks. On the down side these are ducted into the cabin base.
