Re: News & Discussion: Roads & Traffic

I suspect that in 10 or 15 year’s time the concrete busway will simply be replaced by exactly the same concrete busway, once they get maximum use out of the current structure- 50 years isn’t too bad. Much less likely would be Option B - replacing it with a Light Rail line as was originally planned, ...

[COM] Re: Festival Plaza Redevelopment | $800 million

Several pages back on this thread (around April 2020) there are links to all of the signed-off plans, etc. detailing exactly where all the trees and landscaping will go.

Wasn’t sure where else to post this. Quite a good article on SCAP in InDaily: https://indaily.com.au/news/local/2020/ ... ning-body/

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

I think the wonky poles are a mixture of ones installed from the streetscape upgrades 2003-10 and the tram extension 2017. But they were all disfigured by the overhead tram cables. Credit I guess to DIT for recognising they look awful and replacing them.

[COM] Re: 11 Frome Street | 138m | 37 Levels | Crowne Plaza / Adelaidean | New tallest

It looks like like they’ve arranged the facilities around so that some - for example Koomo - will still have good views towards the south? It’s hard to work out the setback for the new student tower next door and how that will affect the sunlight reaching the pool - perhaps sun seekers will still ge...

[COM] Re: SkyCity Adelaide Casino Expansion | 55m | 12 Levels | Hotel

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it looks like from Andy’s pic at least they’ve got the water feature running again and fixed up the stairs? Can anyone who has been past recently confirm? Cheers.

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Fairly confident Labor will at least have costed plans to extend tram to Prospect, and commit to Outer Harbor electrification. Potential feasibility study into extension of rail to Aldinga and tourist rail to Barossa (this would require a heavy subsidy from state govt., no doubt). Trains and trams w...

[COM] Re: 104-106 Currie Street | 117m | 33lvl | Sofitel Hotel

Now that all the levels have been built, it doesn't look 117m tall at all. Its more closer to about 100-105m? The roofline of Westpac is 123m (antennae are 132m) and this certainly doesn't remotely appear to match the roofline of Westpac. Was there a variation to DA? Westpac House is approximately ...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide City Council

If only all of these conservative councillors would spend even a fraction of their time promoting say the tram extension to North Adelaide instead of car use, imagine where Adelaide could be. I challenge them all to have a coffee on say West Terrace or Morphett Street and then one Peel Street or Top...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

For what I can remember of 1980, there would have been ticket offices at Bowden, Woodville and Glanville on the Outer Harbour line for example.....the rest of the stations would have been unstaffed. This was typical of the Adelaide train network at the time. That 1980 map makes the train network mu...

They're just fixing up the paving on this stretch. Across the road (between KW and Gawler Pl) there will be new trees, gardens and a new pavement after the gasworks are completed.

Re: News & Discussion: Laneway & Streetscape Projects

The section of Nth Tce between King William and Kintore was re-paved for the first time in 2010 as part of the boulevard masterplan. Most of this was only laid on sand and not on a concrete base and hence why the granite and other stone rectangular pavers sometimes crack. If you look at the pavement...

[SWP] Re: Lot 14 (Old RAH Site)

It's baffling how it came about that this section has a different design to the other North Terrace sections. Looking at Andy's great pictures there is some continuity with pavement width, lighting and tree choice but that's about it. Why couldn't there been more coordination between the City Counci...

Seven News Adelaide has a good little story on the current works on their Twitter feed - was on Thursday's news I guess too. Was actually nice to see the Lord Mayor and the Infrastructure Minister spruiking the end result. I kind of wish there was a bit more engagement with the public about the work...

[U/C] Re: Ovingham Level Crossing Removal | $231m

Cheers for the updates on this all - but is there any actual evidence that Ovingham station itself will be touched, except for the access ramps which will probably need to be reconfigured? All the State Government's language on this speaks of the benefits to road users only. There are far worse stat...
