Re: Integrating Transport Within the 30-Year Plan

There are many examples of appartment developements adjacent to highways and freeways elsewhere, and when developed and designed properly, can turn out ok. Part of the problem here in Adelaide is that our main roads are not very attractive. Other cities have gone to some lengths to make their highwa...

Re: Integrating Transport Within the 30-Year Plan

If transport infrastructure and/or services were to be integrated with the 30-Year Plan, all we'd be getting is a load of buses to Mt Barker, up north and down south. Transport infrastructure should NOT follow development of an area; rather, there should be sufficient transport options before a new...

Re: Port Adelaide | Developments & News

On another note, Port Canal Woolworths has closed down and Rite Price will be opening in the location next month. First instance of a Woolies I can think of closing down in my 6 years working retail! This is not good news for that mall. Not to sound like a snob, but this area already attracts more ...

So long as Mc Donalds dont want to put a red roof on any of the bus stops in the parklands it should work.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Parklands

Another area that is an absolute discrace is the Northern approach from Prospect and Main Nth Roads. This area of dry scrub is not the sort of entrance to North Adelaide we should want. I know that native scrub is all the rage, and in the right setting is very attractive, and I know the whole parklan...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Parklands

Just happened to visit the park created in the old SA Water depot. Was at Stepney Salvage, and wandered across to take a look. Not a person in sight. Poor visibility from the road, a dead tree in the middle and already the whole thing is looking untidy and under watered. What is the point of spendin...

Re: News & Discussion: Trains

Well, I'm hoping that the Integrated Transport & Movement strategy will go some way to addressing these sort of key issues about the medium-long term viability of passenger rail services in the Adelaide Metropolitan area. Shuz, the problem with studies/strategies/plans, is that unless they are ...

Re: News & Discussion: Trains

Quite right Shuz,it will. And if we had the population of the Eastern states, that whole line would be straightened through the hills and enable it to serve mt Barker and Murray Bridge, But I guess my point was that money would have been better spent toward keeping freight out of the SE suburbs all ...

Re: YOUR solutions: How should we fix Glen Osmond Road?

Just before the intersection with Conyngham/Bevington heading towards the hills, a short bus lane should be built. From my experiences, especially during peak hour, lots of students from Glenunga High get on the bus at this stop and hold up traffic. The footpath appears to be wide enough to allow f...

Re: The weird things about Adelaide CBD road

Another idea was to re-direct Glen Osmond traffic at some point - at minimum making the Glen Osmond extension a bus/bikeway - my original thought was to have Pultney Street as one way leading towards North Terrace, with Hutt Street going the opposition way, but I can't work out how to duplicate tha...

Re: The weird things about Adelaide CBD road

Re: News & Discussion: Trains

Far from being a pie in the sky idea, it's an entirely sensible improvement that really should have been implemented at the time of standardization. The subsequent rise in land prices is the main reason it's so expensive now. This is the part the frustrates me most about this state. And I blame sta...

Re: YOUR solutions: How should we fix Glen Osmond Road?

The problem is that with no median strip, banning right turns will be very difficult. The only place for a sign would be to the left (virtually invisible in busy traffic), overhead signs on wire (Adelaide drivers aren't used to this, most likely will be ineffective) or a sign on the road itself (ag...

Also that Unley, Goodwood roads allow right turns at virtually every side street is beyond me. Its like its 1950 here.

Re: News & Discussion: Public Transport

AIUI the original freeways were built too narrow to meet demand, and had to be widened at considerable expense. And was building new lines down freeways actually government policy at the time a line was slated for closure? Most original freeways built 30 years ago are too narrow. But they were a be...
