They've been doing a lot of tamping overnight around the Croydon area - I'm not sure if this is something that routinely needs doing a few weeks after new track has been laid and everything has settled?
Thanks for that. It would explain why no work is visible to a casual observer.

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Network

In ARS this morning: https://i.imgur.com/tp5ZeO8.jpg A couple of other observations regarding these red repaints... Car 3122 was in service in the morning peak on Wed 2 May with this same colour scheme. Its companion (3121?) was still in the normal yellow, blue & red. Also on Wednesday another ...

[COM] Re: Torrens Junction Underpass

I notice Adelaide Metro is still implementing late night partial closures on the Outer Harbor & Grange lines for "Torrens Rail Junction Project finishing works". This is after the four-day full-time closure on the inner sections of both Port and Gawler lines over the Easter long weeken...

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Network

I happened to pass through Croydon station this morning and was struck by the very miserly provision of seating at the moment. There is one bench for precisely three bottoms - everyone else has to stand or lean. I'd just missed a train and luckily could bag myself a seat on the empty Adelaide-bound ...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

It will be interested to see how Adelaide's passengers cope with the choice of tram routes when the new extensions open, limited though the variety wll be at first. Reason for saying this is that for past 50 years, tram passengers haven't needed to look at the destination on the front of their tram ...

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Network

Another aspect of changing the gauge of the track on gauge-convertible sleepers is that it only moves one rail. Moving one rail 6½" closer to the other one moves the centreline 3¼" (82.5mm). Have the sleepers all been laid with sufficient safety margins against oncoming trains, signal pol...

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Network

I caught the train a couple of times last week when it was too hot to ride. It's immediately apparent that there is inadequate shade. In the morning, the sun comes in low in the gap between the wall and the roof of the shelter, such that no point under the shelter is shaded. People were going parti...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

I know this is a development forum, probably with little interest in ancient history - but one thing that came to mind seeing the pics of the new East End terminus (thanks Norman ) is that construction may have seen removal of the last "old" tramway traction poles in the city square mile. ...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams

Destos on Flexities still show "West Terrace". Will be interested to see if when the destos are updated if this is changed? The West Terrace tram stop has also morphed to Royal Adelaide Hospital on Google Maps, Adelaide Metro's online timetables and in third-party transit apps like myStop...
