http://www.afr.com/p/technology/nbn_co_refuses_to_consider_alternate_ouM1qMhHnsbjWoiE3iEaVO NBN Co’s refusal to consider and judge the Coalition’s alternative broadband plan is disappointing and could be a sign of its “lax attitude”, according to independent MP Rob Oakeshott. Darn he really doesn't...

Goodwood Station, has been taken apart a little (getting shortened? replaced? or just to improve construction vehicle access?) http://imageshack.us/a/img69/6385/20130428142329.jpg Was done earlier to place sections of the stormwater diversion tunnel into place. They would have done a much neater jo...

Re: News & Discussion: National Broadband Network
Given the costing of both NBN plans, $37B for FTTH vs $31B for FTTN, choosing the less reliable option to save $6B over 20 years or so is just pathetic. And given FTTN relies on old copper cables that in some cases date from the 1950's, there is just no way it can be as reliable as brand new fibre c...

Re: News & Discussion: National Broadband Network
Copper maintenance has been an ongoing problem for Telstra since about 2005, I've heard of serious problems before that. See copper cables are joined in special joints, for thick trunk cables these are a complex inline splice, for everything else there are various custom enclosures. One bright spark...

Re: News & Discussion: Public Transport
Expect to see another round of timetable changes occuring later this month with Adelaide's 3 Bus Contractors. Details/timetables should be available in the next week! So the Light City Buses timetables will have row upon row of question marks ? 'cause if not I can't see any of their bus drive...

Re: News & Discussion: Transport Projects
One of the funny things I see often is people repetitively pressing the pedestrian call button while waiting to cross. Pressing the button once registers a call to the computer that someone is waiting to cross. Pressing it multiple times does nothing to speed up how quickly the lights change becaus...

Looks like a compilation of Heardy_101's greatests rants.
Seriously you sent that huge list of historical facts mixed with the odd question that should probably be answered to the media and politicians ?

Re: Electrification and Resleepering of suburban rail networ
Looking at the latest NearMap, it seems like they are prepping the Tonsley Line for duplication. What do you guys think? That is my thought as well, the Noarlunga line didn't get its signalling/power cables dug up and relocated. I doubt they will be laying the second track too soon, but as a longer...

[PRO] Re: Fast trains planned for Adelaide's south
I think if the announcement had been that funding was being provided for the planning stage of a future Seaford Aldinga extension, rather than the more sensational headline grabbing 260km/h trains rubbish, then it would have had more credibility, and not offended those whose projects had been canne...

That's wierd, its like the mall used to be :2cents: minus the red bricks of course, and hopefully the annoying as c**p, useless in winter, annoying in spring, plane trees that clueless councils think are good. The stalls in the middle of the mall were a pain though, as far from being a small kiosk t...

Re: Electrification and Resleepering of suburban rail networ
This is a complete joke, what we have is inadequate in coverage, frequency and travel time. We really should replace the Obahn with proper heavy rail, expand the network with new rail and tram corridors. For example, there is a 2nd rail corridor to Glenelg, which if converted to heavy rail/tramway ...
