Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn
Trolley buses are used in so many locations in the world it is impossible to believe we could not build them here. The tech is old, cheap and reliable. Yes, but not many places are building more trolleybus routes. Meanwhile, lots of places are buying battery electric buses. For example, Wellington ...

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn
I suspect that there would be very few routes that are worth stringing wires for the entire length, so a battery of some kind would be needed. The size would be a function of how quickly it can receive top-up charges at a few powered stops or running under (over) wires in the city. Maybe the big fl...

Here is an idea: ground level power supply https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground-level_power_supply like the new trams in Sydney. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7b/George_Street_near_the_Dymocks_building_December_2017.jpg Trams use the rails as one part of the electrical circuit, wh...

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn
Buses in the middle is a good idea (and matches trams) but does mean that pedestrians from either side have to cross through the car lanes to get to it. Although that's not really a problem if those personal vehicle lanes were akin to Pirie Street with multiple crossings. One big advantage of the b...

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn
The O-Bahn tunnel was quite cheap at $160 million. The thing is, there are no bus stops inside the tunnel. When you put bus stops in a tunnel, the cost shoots up because the tunnel will be wider where the stops are, plus you need ramps for the pedestrians. It's looking at the problem the wrong way. ...

Who will use the hydrogen? It would be a good idea to set up an ammonia plant nearby to take advantage of the cheap hydrogen. At the moment, ammonia for fertilisers and explosives is the largest user of hydrogen.

It was not so much the change of government but the people of Norwood, when given a choice between the prestige of having a tram or keeping the gum trees in the centre of the parade, most decided the gum trees were more important. so the liberals quietly dumped the tram plan because they did not ha...

[U/C] Re: M2 North-South Motorway
Even if its finished in 10 years that's only 1 km a year on average for the 10kms of road... plus the cost of probably $1 billion per km.. something is wrong. TBMs can do 10-15 kms in one year... even allowing 2-3 years to complete it would be fair... but 10 -15 years? When a TBM is set up and runn...

[VIS] Re: New inner-city stadium
With this weeks announced pending closure (mid 2021) of West End Brewery at Thebarton surely this site would be a prime candidate as a replacement for Hindmarsh Stadium. The previously proposed railyards site could then be used for a smaller 15K multiuse arena. Great idea. It's in a well connected ...

Unless upgrades or additional tracks are created between Woodlands Park and Goodwood, I think the proposed stopping pattern is a fair compromise given the lack of overtaking tracks. Making Flinders stop all stations and Seaford express would likely result in the express services being stuck behind ...

Put in bus lanes then. Since the freeway is grade separated, we may as well make it an O-Bahn track. This idea has been discussed before: https://www.sensational-adelaide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=6340 It's actually a really good idea. According to one source (which I can't verify, but sou...

Re: Moving the airport to a less populated area
Adelaide already has a second airport capable of handling big jets, RAAF Edinburgh. It's underused by the air force, it could handle far more jets. They could build a civilian terminal there and lease it to airlines. This is what happens at Newcastle, Darwin and Townsville. RAAF Edinburgh is already...

So if people have to wait on average 30 minutes, that adds an average of 30 minutes to their journey. The train will take about 20 minutes to get to the city, so the average journey will be 50 minutes. It also takes 50 minutes to cycle to the city. :wallbash: Seaford trains should be express into th...
