Re: Finally, the Liberal's "Vision of the Future" document

This document isn't so much important for what it contains, but more so for the responses and idea-generation that will follow as a result. It will ensure that South Australia's built environment becomes an important political issue - architecture, urban design and cultural development will become ...

Finally, the Liberal's "Vision of the Future" document

It seems Major Marty is trying to beat Rann at his own game by creating a cult of personality around him: http://www.martin2010.com.au/ Fortunately for us, it has the Liberal's future vision document on it. You know, the one about taking over the ACC and creating seaside villages. Here's where you c...

Re: #Official Mining Thread

Just finished reading through Oxiana's "Oxiana Review 2007". It features an aerial view of the Prominent Hill pit on the front cover and another aerial view of the waste rock and tailings storage ring with the pit in the background on the start of the section on Prominent Hill, which has s...

Re: Why the Gawler line needs to be upgraded - NOW!

few questions we need to clarify before considering a submission: * who is the audience for the submission? * what are our key messages? * what are our recommendations? what do we want to happen? * Would we consider including suggestions about converting rail lines to dedicated bus-lanes, light-rai...

Re: #Official Mining Thread

Good 2-page pdf, updated March 1st so reasonably accurate ==> http://www.pir.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0006/67542/State_Mines_Handout_2008_web_2.pdf * Page 1 is a map of SA clearly showing the location of current mines and emerging projects * Page 2 lists more details about each mine/project...

Re: Why the Gawler line needs to be upgraded - NOW!

I'm all for putting together a Sensationa Adelaide issue paper or something that can be circulated to the media and public about the appalling state of SA's rail system. Photos, maps, facts and figures, comparisons and a future vision or two. Some of Will's photos of track conditions and a calculati...

[COM] Re: #Proposed : 'Northern Connector'

As I live in the "proposed" corridor of the Northern Connector and am likely to lose my home of 30 years to it I wonder if any thought has been put into what actually will be lost if this connector goes ahead? The so called vacant and low residential area of the western side of Pt Wakefie...

Re: Why the Gawler line needs to be upgraded - NOW!

Disgraceful. I had no idea the Gawler line was so bad - it should have priority over the Noarlunga and Belair lines for re-sleepering. Can these speed restrictions be plotted on a map, and can the time penalty be calculated as well (taking into account the slow acceleration and braking times of our ...

Re: #Official Mining Thread

They are talking about shifting a million tons a day for 2 years before the hole reaches down to the ore body. Yeah, the ODX website that they estimate 3-4 years of removing overburden before they begin production. Then it works out to producing about 1.25 tonnes of ore per second, 24 hours a day, ...

Re: #Official Mining Thread

The cost of building one nuke plant plus all the refining and disposal costs would be larger than building and maintaining solar plants. Considering that they are in the middle of a big sunny desert that would be the prudent thing to do. Sorry, but that's a load of bullshit just like the article ab...

Re: Krispy Kreme donuts in Adelaide

About bloody time they opened more stores. There's one opening here in Brisbane very soon. Can't wait. Apparently the KK parent company in the USA expanded very quickly after going public and then ran into financial troubles so sold the Australian business to some private investors who are not into ...
