Re: News & Discussion: Trams
As much as I like rail for sentimental value, the fact is that buses are more flexible and solve any complaints of congestion. The best solution in Adelaide is Bus Rapid Transit. I don't understand why it's rarely suggested. All the main roads should have BRT in the middle of the road, at least for...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Sounds plausible but how much demand is there for Henley Beach all year round. Also to get from airport to city and vice versa will take a long time. I think more a high speed express train direct from airport to city is the best option (possibly underground.) What? Why? How quick do you need the j...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
I would like to see the money spent elsewhere like grade separating the intersection of Elder Smith Road and Salisbury Highway or upgrading Bridge Road (bus stop bays, median between McIntyre Road and Smith Road, traffic light at intersection of Wynn Vale Drive) or putting in traffic lights at Hayd...

Re: After the North South Corridor..
Bring back the 340, make it express and increase frequency. That should get some traffic off TH Rd!

Re: Redesigned Bus Routes Post-Flinders Extension
Yeah, the 702 could do with a few intersection upgrades to traffic lights to be viable. Potentially, you could just have the 702 run the current 722 and route the 726 to cover the 743/4 route from Majorca all the way around... I guess in response to the rationale behind the changes. The idea is to p...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Given the indirect nature of the train line (heading northeast, before heading southeast), and the fact that it doesn't follow main roads means any bus replacement, even an express one, will suffer a slower passenger journey. So it wouldn't be an easy fix to simply replace with a bus. Not impossible...

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway
So my comment was very much tongue in cheek, but my original point remains the same. There seems to be an opinion that having a freeway system is a must. My comment is that we need to break that assertion. London wouldn't dream of building a freeway through its core and instead has a multitude of pu...

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway
What is all this obsession with having to build freeways everywhere to cater for autonomous single occupant vehicles? As automation becomes the norm for cars it'll also become the norm for mass transit (and is actually far more advanced already). So unlike what happened the invention of the car, whe...

[U/C] Re: Port Adelaide Dock Spur Line
So disappointing. Even at $40M, it's still small potatoes (although it should be a pretty fancy development for that price). The benefits of this project are surely greater than any of the intersection upgrades that benefit a handful of single-occupant vehicles. And it plays into their own mantra of...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Cross Road, Hawthorn is probably among the worst ones you've listed. If we're talking about creating a better corridor between the S/E Freeway and the N/S corridor then I would suggest sending Cross Road above the tramline and both intersections nearby. Train line at Hawthorn? The tramline at Cross...

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
An even easier implementation would be to bring back a regular 333 and divert the current 157 to create a go-zone between Semaphore Rd / Military Rd and Dock One. The routes would traverse the suggestion above then turn either left/right to continue to West Lakes or Osborne.

Re: News & Discussion: Trams
Recently I used the South Road tram stop, parking there to tram into town (I refuse to drive into or park in town, usually I use the train but that day I didn't), and it got me thinking. Unlike other tram stops, South Road stop is severly lacking in the parking department, especially for a stop so ...

[U/C] Re: North-South Motorway
I doubt any Government would be looking to install a MATS-like interchange (originally designed for Thebarton) at Emerson. Those types of interchanges just aren’t seen or are necessary in urban environments. We probably won’t ever get a freeway-grade Cross Rd either. You can do a lot for traffic vol...
