Re: New electric train chosen for Adelaide

Can this thread please not derail into another bitch about livery? It's insignificant. But to the topic, I wish there was more information about what model has being chosen and where they will be constructed. I kind was hoping for a model that didn't have the 'corrugated panels' (as Ho Really put it...

West Lakes shoppers will pay to park ABC News Online , 15 November 2010 Boom gates will be installed on the car parks of West Lakes Mall shopping centre, in Adelaide's west. The more I look at it the more I hate it. It's just a glass box on stilts. Same old upwards plot extension.

Why is Adelaide still copping buildings like this? The market is full of them -- surely by now there'd be enough incentive for developers to one-up the competition with some good design?

[COM] Re: PRO: Victoria Square Upgrade

According to Clr Plumridge in his last newsletter, "Victoria Square plan is currently being documented in preparation for going to tender at about the middle of 2011." I'm curious what "being documented" actually means, and why it takes around a year. In any event, though I am pl...

I must admit, though, that I'm disappointed with the brickwork - it's too perfect, even down to a lack of tonal variation in the colour, and lacks the character I imagine it was supposed to be adding. Still, most modern brickwork is like that. :secret: Sandstock bricks, Brighton-Lite mortar, and sh...

Sorry Wayno and SRW, I don't understand the last two posts at all! Are they intended to be a joke? In that location, I'd hope it'd be retail, else I'd be worried about the developers' business sense.

Even still, it would be odd if were being fitted out before the actual building redevelopment is complete. Hopefully just preparatory work of another kind.

I'm as much a proponent for good design as the next guy, but I think we have to accept that if we want to see the city's population boom we're going to need a bunch more apartment towers and not all of them will be architectural superstars. So when a relatively inoffensive if not pleasing design lik...

Re: CBD Development: Low/Mid-Rise

Supposing it does get a few coats of (a lighter colour) paint, I actually like it a lot. It's completely changed the feel of Whitmore Sq -- once they're occupied it should feel a bunch safer too.
