Re: The SA Politics Thread

No, it's far worse than that! The Libs are lying to us about state debt. They claim to have got their figures from the 2013-14 budget papers. Those are online so I had a look at them and I'd encourage others to do the same. The debt figure of $13.75 billion is gross debt, with net debt closer to ha...

Re: The SA Politics Thread

Although that's very important, there are plenty of other things they can do. Investing in infrastructure is the most important one. Infrastructure needs taxpayer money, and a lot of it. If you haven't got it you'll have to borrow and if the economy is in a downturn you won't pay it off soon. I thi...

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw

Not our current passenger trains, as the track that goes up that way is of a different gauge (size), and our trains simply won't fit on them. But if the government did purchase a rail-car just for this line, I think it would be easily possible. The Salisbury Station looks (from Google Maps at least...

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw

Theres a huge chunk of barren land just near Edwardstown station that is now empty (used to be factories), you just hope that its turned into med density residential, not more industrial, and also I wonder when they will turn the old Port Stanvac oil refinery land (just west of Lonsdale station) in...

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw

OK, I have a few days off so I went down to Seaford on the train. I didn't happen to get a new train, but oh well. The all stops was a bit excrutiating, especially because the 3000 trains are so slow in accelerating from stations, and the 2 car train almost struggled to get up the hills through Sea...

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw

Sadly, it looks like Public Transport will be left to languish under the Libs. Is there a Liberal policy document out on public transport, infrastructure? Yeah, right here. http://www.vickiechapman.com.au/Portals/0/Infrastructure%20SA.pdf Not worth the weight in tin of the electrons used to transmi...

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw

I was on the first train yesterday and the A-City train is brilliant. The ride was so quiet and smooth. As a regular weekday commuter on the Gawler line, the new 4000 class train is a quantum leap over the 3000 class. I wont even try to compare it to the 2000 class Jumbo's. Yesterday's first schedu...

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw

Instead we have a state government saddled with more debt, given the only other choice was to get sued for breach of contract. This has happened for the Tonsley line signalling/pointwork where it was virtually finished, the Tonsley line Bus interchange which hadn't even started, and the Electrifica...

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw

Jay Weatherill and Labor just simply do not get it then do they? Tony Abbott has explicitly stated and made it clear, time and time again, that so long as he is Prime Minister, his government will not invest in urban rail projects. Labor understand perfectly, Tony Abbott is an arsehole completely o...

Re: News & Discussion: National Broadband Network

The only real problem with HFC is expanding the network into new streets, as the costs just don't add up. Thicker and harder to handle cable, and takes up more ductwork and costs more compared to FTTH, in almost all cases it would be a better deal all round to install FTTH. One other issue with HFC,...

Re: News & Discussion: National Broadband Network

And to think I was supposed to get FTTH sometime next year, I swear if it doesn't go ahead I'm going to live in a cave. Won't be long before everything in this country is overpriced or garbage. It's like one of those super markets in Russia, where people queue for hours for some item without knowing...
