[PRO] Re: 80 Currie Street | 137m | 34 levels | Office

Yet another building that is being constrained by the RTCC. An aviation surface which was arbitrarily adopted in 1980's and which is now used by no aircraft. Adelaide will become a city of buildings at 132-137m height until the RTCC is lifted. 80 Currie has clearly been designed up to the absolute l...

This talk of height limits and safety for planes reminded me of a video I saw of some Spanish and Greek firefighting planes that were sent to Israel..literally flying right besides and between apartment buildings, below their roof tops, to dump water on fire. :D Modern flight systems are far safer ...

[APP] Re: 51 Pirie Street | 114m | 28 Levels | Hyatt

It's a mistake to assume that the current limits are related to any actual safety issue. The limiting surfaces over the eastern half of Adelaide CBD (RTCC and the lowest PANS-OPS surfaces) are outdated/arbitrary and have no relationship to currently used flight procedures. In the past there hasn't b...

I can't recall if it was you CDJ or another forum member who mentioned a few months ago about there being some sort of work being done behind the scenes about lifting the airspace restrictions? Hi Shuz - yes there is a lot going on in the background. This activity is at a higher level than some mig...

This is what, the second or third time now we're hearing about issues with cranes and pan-ops in recent developments? How come other cities don't appear to have issues with tall buildings going up and the cranes used? or is it simply because we haven't had any significantly tall buildings (in Adela...

I'm still amazed that there's been no attempt at setting up a Woolworths Metro or Coles Express at the Adelaide Railway Station (or in the underpass / Station Arcade). Totally agree - they would make a fortune. They would get half of my weekly grocery spend and I'm guessing similar for many of the ...

[COM] Re: 11 Frome Street | 135m | 37 Levels | Crowne Plaza / Adelaidean | New tallest

Just to clear up what may be a point of confusion here: - Aviation surfaces/heights are measured above height datum, not above ground (stating the obvious). - The limits on building height in Adelaide CBD are effectively set by aviation. The lowest aviation surface (which is governing building heigh...

Many thanks to you normh for the info you provided - this is really valuable. I've been trying to find the airspace study for Realm. It is interesting that the report indicates that AAL specifically blocked any application to temporarily breach RTCC/PANS-OPS. Firstly, they don,t have the authority ...

The RTCC/PANS-OPS exists to protect planes should they need to use an emergency flight path - which happens to be right above the CBD. This is partially correct. Some of the PANS-OPS surfaces over the CBD relate to emergency circling procedures (missed approach). These procedures could be safely ad...

Re RTCC. Was the then Bank SA tower when constructed in the late 80's built to the RTCC ceiling, or was RTCC increased at that time to accommodate the tower? The RTCC was lifted to match with the height of the State Bank (Westpac) building. The current RTCC zone corresponding to the centre of the C...

PANS-OPS isn't the limiting surface in that location - the RTCC is the airspace limit for most of the eastern half of the CBD. The RTCC exactly matches the tallest antenna on Westpac (182.9m AHD or approx 136m above ground). Approval is required to breach the RTCC for any amount of time. I assume A...

If you look at where it's "topped out", it looks like a foundation for something on top. Is the crane at its peak? Or can it go any higher? It's at it's highest without breaching PANOPS. I believe there may have been an application to breach this limit for three months, so there may be an...
