[COM] Re: #U/C: Victoria Square Upgrade - $24m

Totally with you Urban - very glad to see the eucalypts going in here. They'll look fantastic as they mature - more the merrier I say of the natives. spiller - they are disappearing across Adelaide faster than they get replaced - and yes, branches dropping are an issue - but in the scale of things, ...

[COM] Re: U/C: Adelaide Oval Redevelopment | 53,500 | $545m

It's not a joke - this is a pretty poor start to SMA's tenure in charge of a "sporting stadium". Whilst it is probably going to be a moot point as I cannot see SA making the shield final (but one can hope), what the hell is the landlord (SMA) doing in double booking the stadium ni the very...

[U/C] Re: News & Discussion: South Road / North-South Corridor

I suspect the horse has well and truly bolted - DPTI have called tenders for detailed planning study of Darlington and South Road from Gallipoli Underpass through to the Southern Expressway entrance onto South Road. Looks like a fast tender to get things moving - so the Feds have won the battle, who...

They are huge and really clear - I was watching one from the deck at the Intercontinental the other day. Bring on the Ashes.

Re: Adelaide Airport visions

No doubt someone on S-A knows the real technical reason, but an A380 can only land in Adelaide as part of an unscheduled, emergency type movement. They are not able to use the airport as a standard commercial destination due to the runway length - I don't think the length meets CASA requirements for...

pushbutton - you probably could have stopped after your first sentence - wait till it is finished before bagging it. It will very likely look completely different once finished - and then we can all judge. As for sculpture - I'm glad one isn't included in this contract - I reckon we'll be better off...

Re: Adelaide Airport visions

Agree with Aidan, extending the current runway would seem the most likely major works for a long time. As I understand it, this would enable the new A380 to use the airport hence increasing the volume for long haul flights which would be good. By the time they need a parallel runway, they may as wel...

Re: South Australia- An independent nation

Geez, this thread is one interesting old ride. Started out with an interesting concept - debating merit or not of becoming independent - and descending into an angry debate on gay marriage. Now, back to topic - anyone wanting to fire up gay marriage issue again - suggest you open a new page and go t...

F**ing news stations - would rather try and be negative than simply let the people who know what they are doing get on with it. I hope the crew get the surface top notch and then Channel 7 can be forced to publish an apology - and if they are right, they should still apologise as it is this tall pop...

Re: Los Angeles/Portland Light Rail

Nice! That dual elevated carriageway dwarfs our Superway - that is the most American part of all those pics! Imagine getting that allowed so close to the buildings in Adelaide - I think not (and don't really want it to either before I draw attention to that statement). Interesting point about the st...

Re: Los Angeles/Portland Light Rail

Thanks PeFe.

Your post has given me a better understanding with a few pictures and words on Portland than anything I've seen locally on the city that we are apparently working hard (or at least were under Mike Rann's Gov) to emulate.

Great post

Re: PRO: 30-year Transport Plan PRO | $36b

I do tend to agree with you Rubberman, priorities do seem to change mysteriously in line with their political masters. But also, we do need to remember the level of detail (or lack thereof) that a lot of these policies and initial priority projects are based upon. That 2009 study for Darlington was ...

Re: PRO: 30-year Transport Plan PRO | $36b

Whether you are cynical or a believer - at last we have a public plan and at $36B for 30 years - it doesn't actually on face value appear unachievable at $1.2B per annum (in fact it could be accelerated as benefits are realised and revenues improve) - this spend rate would be no more than the last 8...

Re: Infill Developments | Metropolitan Adelaide

The main issue at stake here is clarity on the planning regime - it seems to me that Adelaide's planning system is under continuous review and changes. If people can be sure what rules apply to the area they are seeking to live in, then there can be no complaints if high or medium rise dwellings get...
