Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

I'm not anti nuclear. I have a simple question. If the chosen route from here is to go nuclear, what on earth is the policy between now and in an absolute minimum 15 years from now when the first reactor could be commissioned? The answer is burn more coal and gas. And when the cost comparison is don...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

I thought the questions were too skewed to consider answering whatever short survey I saw. I have no problem with nuclear power being legalised/decriminalised/allowed. If a nuclear power station were to be built, I have no problem with it being in an appropriate industrial zone near me, but the que...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

The boomers Ran up national debts to pay for themselves Bought multiple properties for next to nothing and demand rent from the people paying off their national debt AND private debt Fucked the environment and no qualms leaving the mess to their kids If they went to university, they didn't pay for i...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

Really not enthused by that. There are zero scale efficiencies and needless duplication of everything provided by the grid. If they must target a specific group, could have just given a straight up subsidy and gotten on with it. :2cents:

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

If we're crying about 9 billion then... Europe: the continent with 70 years of expertise in building and running nuclear plants in a nuclear industry. Let that sink in. Finland built a 1.6GW reactor for a cost of 11.6 billion euro. This is a country with existing expertise in building and running nu...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

Amazing that basically the only thing SA could ever be regarded as a world leader in and you still get those types against it. nobody will want to move to a state to manufacture that has the most expensive energy in the world that only has the capacity for 1.5 million people and requires backfill f...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

abc. Net renewables in SA in 2027. 3 years. What are you going to power with a nuclear plant that, if the answer was yes today, would maybe be commissioned by 2040? Nothing in SA. The capacity is already built out. Now, take the state which has done absolutely fucking nothing - Queensland. From 2018...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

If absolutely everything went perfectly for nuclear, you'd get your first nuclear plant commissioned in time to see the entire NEM already 100% renewable. Without getting into the debate of whether solar/wind is cheaper than nuclear (which it is, I just don't have the capacity for idiots on a Saturd...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

For those into the politics, here it is. SA will be at 100% net renewables in 3 years. Australia at 80% in 6 years (currently nudging 40). Building a nuclear power plant typically takes 7-15 years if, IF, you have an existing nuclear industry, related infrastructure (hello waste storage again), the ...

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure

There's not the slightest shred of evidence that this is true. Pure imagination that would put Walt Disney to shame. Meanwhile, in the real world, nobody is investing in coal unless government guarantees are involved. lol, I don’t need to imagine it, all I gotta do is look at my power bill and it’s...
