[COM] Re: SWP: Victoria Square Upgrade - $24m

BTW, I think Vic Square will look magnificent when complete. I am more than happy with the tree compromise. To have some Eucalypts for year round greenery when the plane trees are bare will be nice. But also so the event lawn can enjoy some winter sunshine under the planes. A good result all round.

[COM] Re: SWP: Victoria Square Upgrade - $24m

And as I suggested, if you are in doubt re the lemon scented gum, and their suitability for planting in close urban enivironments, contact your local council and ask their opinion, these trees have caused huge issues in the suburbs, but I guess that is just anecdotal evidence...

[U/C] Re: South Road Planning Study

As most heavy transport enters Adelaide from Port Wakefield RD to the North or the SE Freeway to the South, and most industry is based along South road the,TapleysHill Road alignment is too farwest. It is almost as far from Tapleys hill Rd to the airport entrance as it is from South road. Billions ha...

Re: Port Adelaide | Developments & News

People seem to blur the lines a lot between what the government can do and property that is in private hands. The government do not own shopping centres, private homes or housing developments. There are no private homes or housing developements behind Woolworths. There is building facing Dale Stree...

[COM] Re: SWP: Victoria Square Upgrade - $24m

To clarify for those who didn't read the article, gums will still be planted around the periphery of the square; the planes are now proposed to line the inside promenades adjacent the event lawn. I feel this is sensible for the reason that concluded the article -- to provide design contrast and vis...

[U/C] Re: South Road Planning Study

None of this is very surprising, and why is the lack of money for construction preventing a detailed plan of THE WHOLE ROUTE. No wonder the feds dont give us money when we dont even have a comprehensive plan for our North/South corridor. The entire length should be fully planned, fully costed and st...

[COM] Re: SWP: Victoria Square Upgrade - $24m

Funny how Lemon Scented Gums are blamed for dropping limbs more than other species and Plane Trees are blamed for giving people hayfever more than any other species; when neither of those commonly held pieces of information are correct. Re the Lemon Scented gums, in our climate they are well known ...

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw

Sad to see Keswick go. The opportunity was there to make a Southern Cross station out of it, but that would have made too much sense. The Government obviously didn't like the fact that there was a connection there at all (that little kefuffle dates back to the STA vs ANR days!) I dont think one mor...

Re: The Economic News Thread

Imagine if the Feds had bailed out SA soon after the State Bank collapse - the entire country would have been better for it. By way of comparison we (via the Feds) managed to find $5b to help out QLD due to flooding a few years back (not mentioning the fact most flooded homes exist on a flood plain...

Re: The Economic News Thread

Point being we're not really like Greece as our currency is pegged 1:1 with all other australian states, which makes life tougher for us in many respects. So we just need to be smarter. We are very much like Greece. The Greek currency is the Euro, 1:1 with all other European States, as our currency...

Re: The Economic News Thread

The difference is; Melbourne is getting new hi-rises every year. I don't think we have had anything above 25 stories or so for the last 30 years. We're not even getting our 1/3. So there's something else than just population at play here (if that was the case Darwin should not even have a 5 story b...

Re: Port Adelaide | Developments & News

The Woolworths was too small and they did ask the Port Canal if they could make it bigger they said no. Could this be true? If a company like Woolworths asked for more space, and the government is desperate to get developement in the Port happening, then why on earth did they not offer for Woolwort...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Parklands

Rev, I love the idea of more lakes/waterways in the parklands. But highrise living in the SE corner will never be allowed. They call it the "Parisian quarter" or some wank. Someone from the city council, I forget who, proposed pumping water from the wier end of Torrens lake, through the pa...
