Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

How would you deal with the 47 street crossings of the Port Road median between the Entertainment Centre and Port Adelaide station?

Re: News & Discussion: Cycling

Sounds like a plan. Have all the traffic from Main North Road funneling into one lane doing 30km/hour. Be good for Adelaide City Council shops. Prospect Council, not so much.

Re: News & Discussion: Squares and Parklands

Yeah I was a bit tongue-in-cheek because
a) the city skyline is several years old, with many new tall buildings missing
b) the 'lake' (?) in the middle-distance, to the right of the RAH, with hills beyond reminds me more of upper Spencer Gulf than Adelaide.

These claims seem a little sly:

What city is that in the backdrop? And what hills are those, on the eastern horizon?

Today there was talk of hot-desking in the new building, with a number of desks allocated as a percentage of the number of staff. I'm annoyed, but you can't get everything you want. Does hot desking imply their will be a hybrid setup, partly in the office and partly working from home? This is often...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains

4029 appeared at Dry Creek at start of March and 4030 in mid April. I saw 4030 in service today (for I believe the first time). Strangely 4029 has yet to enter service. The new units are being delivered about every 6-8 weeks. There are 4 more to be delivered. I reckon they could all be Inservice by...

Universities are federally funded. It's not something for a state government to "choose to spend money on" unless you want the government to be a property developer and build student blocks. That was all you took from Floplo's post? I'm afraid I have to agree with Floplo on this - there i...

Penrice definitely used the line for bringing materials into the plant, think that until their closure a decade ago they might have also exported products on the line. They had a daily stone train ("The Stonie" to gunzels) from the quarry at Penrice to Osborne, where they used the limesto...

[VIS] Re: Passenger Trains to Mount Barker

I think it's rather unlikely that freight arriving from Melbourne, Sydney, Darwin or Perth would be heading for Port Adelaide or Outer Harbor to be transferred to a ship. They are all bigger ports than Adelaide. Similarly, it's unlikely that cargo arriving in Adelaide by ship would be railed to the...

It will be interesting to see if any rural railways get a serious proposal to reopen them. Eyre Peninsula narrow gauge seems possible. Many of the others have been repurposed or lost I think. Rattler, RIesling and Amy Gillett trails for example. Now that Aurizon have taken over OneRail, hopefully t...

Where's the line on private property and rights then? What, just to make some people feel better? At what point does it stop, when the council or state owns the property? Then you'll be paying that extra tax to keep it graffiti free every day. I see where you're coming from and you have a valid poi...

When I last built a house (1995), one of the council stipulations was that there could not be a tree within the same distance of the house as the tree's height. This meant that if the tree fell over from its base, it would not destroy the house. Once I had moved in, I could plant what I liked, where...
