Re: News & Discussion: Trams
And dont forget that all journeys between Bowden and the Adelaide train station will be ten minutes longer under the light rail plan (as the tram leaves the dedicated rail corridor before Bowden station to enter Port Rd and continue the journey through traffic) Unless they ran trams at the speed by...

Re: News & Discussion: Road Issues & Traffic Congestion
I've been out during the day but I think Revs points pretty much sum up everything I had to say. On the whole overtaking on the left (or undertaking as I've heard it called), I'm pretty certain it's illegal, but I'm not sure if that just goes for single lane roads (ie using the shoulder on the duke...

Re: News & Discussion: Road Issues & Traffic Congestion
I can answer the one about manhole covers rev. Originally, sewers were laid down the middle of the street. So, no problems. However, when a road alignment changes, so that the sewer is no longer in the middle, it's considered too expensive to relocate the sewer. It's almost impossible to retrofit ma...

Re: News & Discussion: National Broadband Network
I think what they mean when they say they don't qualify for the NBN is that they don't get fibre to the premises, which some do qualify for/get. But Malcolm said that anyone who wants the fibre can get it for an extra $5000. He wouldn't break a promise, would he? So just tell them that Malcolm said ...

Re: News & Discussion: National Broadband Network
it won't decrease his bloody house price, what a crock of bullshit. I've spoken to half a dozen people buying houses, none of them even listed internet as an issue, people who worry small things like this will impact house prices likely have a shit house in the first place. back on topic, it is biz...

Re: News & Discussion: National Broadband Network
NBN FTTN kills off ADSL for Adelaide metro customer, to be replaced with satellite The NBN company has confirmed plans to terminate the ADSL connection of a customer living in metropolitan Adelaide and replace it with a high-latency satellite connection, due to the installation of Fibre to the Node...

Re: News & Discussion: Trains
True, we are using more per capita, but because of immigration, there are more capitas. 8) <pedant voice> I must point out that "capita" is already plural, being Latin for "heads" (singular nominative: "capult"). I would also accept "capults". </pedant voice>...

In addition, we still have to replace aging stuff. Add to that, even though there's a lot of pv panels, if the clouds come over people won't put up with rationing, they'll want to use the network.

Re: News & Discussion: Trains
People don't just look for employment opportunities. Some people come here to start businesses. We don't all have to be employees. Hard to convince people to start businesses when the running costs here are a bit steep. Electricity...business taxes, some of the most expensive in the country. That's...

Well, it would be good for retirees.Waewick wrote: and what exactlty are they going to do in their $350k house?
collect welfare?
And also, the difference in house price would realise quite a bit of money, and probably reduce pension amounts due to the assets test. Win-win.

Re: Bolivar Water Recycling Plant
Eyes won't be opened this drought because we've got a shiny new desal plant(Thank god). I can't wait for it to start sticking its finger up at the naysayers. Not sure what the naysayers have been saying about the desal plant, but spending (that) money on projects that harvested water would've been ...

Re: News & Discussion: O-Bahn
Years ago Pultney Grammar School built a pedestrian Bridge over South Tce . Everyday school students and the general public actually use it. It is elegant, useful, and unobtrusive so it can be done And because it wasn't built tall enough it restricts the types of vehicles that can travel down South...

Re: News & Discussion: National Broadband Network
guys, forget the property 'marketability' thing - at least for a few years. I'm loathe to say 'property prices' because there will always be a cross-section of the population who don't really care about the NBN or don't get it. There definitely won't be a short-term property impact. The impact will...

Re: News & Discussion: National Broadband Network
The economic case for increased property prices in ares with FTTP vs FTTN is this: Just wander round electronics shops for a while. You will see that there is a significant number of people willing to shell out big dollars to get the latest "toys". Many would pay thousands per year in vari...

Re: News & Discussion: Trains
I don't think for one moment that Turnbull is incompetent. Nor do I think that the State Government is either. The problem is that Canberra still collects the bulk of revenue, but the states have the bulk of the responsibilities. It's called "vertical fiscal imbalance". Google is your frie...
