Theres another marina development in regional SA, this time in one of South Australias Favourite playgrounds Mannum.
The Mannum Marina proposal seeks to develop a multi-use recreational/commercial marina immediately south of Mannum, with a marina basin and moorings for 200 houseboats and smaller recreational craft (including provision for living on board). A residential sub-division of up to 550 allotments (200 of which would have water frontage) is also proposed, along with tourist accommodation and commercial development (including facilities and services for tourists, boat users and residents).
I think SA should be known as the marina state because of all these marina developments.

Macquarie CountryWide Trust (MCW) has recently commenced the development of a greenfield shopping centre project in South Australia's Riverland region. The Renmark Plaza project is expected to deliver a year one yield of over 8%.
Builder Hansen Yuncken has recently commenced construction of the 11,870 sqm centre, located on the Sturt Highway at Renmark, with completion scheduled for the end of next year.
In a statement yesterday MCW said almost two-thirds of the centre's projected income was already secured. The trust has secured a Woolworths supermarket and a Big W discount department store as anchor tenants for the centre.
The leasing campaign is being co-ordinated by Metier Consulting, in conjunction with the newly established Macquarie Real Estate Management Services.
Upon completion Renmark Plaza will be the largest shopping centre in the Riverland region. The projected total cost of the develpment is $37.3 million.

lol for years Riverland People have gone to do there shopping in Mildura, now its going to be the otherway around as Mildura still doesnt have a Big W store and many residents are sceaming out for one.
There was a plan for a one a couple of years, but it was axed after Mildura Plaza traders were against it.
anyway good news for the Riverland.
btw Mt Barker is spose to be getting a Big W.

A $37.3 MILLION shopping centre will be built in Renmark and is expected to create up to 150 new jobs when it opens late next year.
Macquarie CountryWide Trust has secured retailer Big W to occupy 5200sq m of the new Riverland centre.
Woolworths will also relocate from a nearby site to a 3200sq m tenancy in the complex.
Trust chief executive officer Steven Sewell said the centre would also have 25 specialty stores in a total area of 3000sq m. The development's construction will start immediately.

Most of my family come from Renmark. The saying is that you go to Mildura, and half of Renmark are there :p

A $165 MILLION residential canal estate planned for the banks of the River Murray has been approved by the State Government.
AdelaideNow has been told the controversial development is being presented to Governor Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce for approval this morning.
Fifteen months ago, The Advertiser reported numerous concerns relating to the 570-allotment project – 160 of them waterfront – with a 150-berth marina for houseboats on 170ha at Mannum.
At the time, State Government departments were worried about the effect on water and salinity levels for the private development.
The development also includes a commercial and tourism precinct, 40ha of wetlands and open space and a major upgrade to the town's existing wastewater treatment plant.
The local council and the Trade and Economic Development Department supported the project, citing economic and population benefits - with estimates it would bring 900 new residents.
Agencies, including the Water, Land and Biodiversity Conservation Department, and the Environment Protection Authority, however, were worried about:
FINDING the 520 million litres of water needed to fill the marina.
EFFECTS on salinity levels from rises in ground water.
EVAPORATION and pollution levels.
A SMALL section of the project to be located on the decommissioned wastewater treatment plant.
IMPACTS on native flora and fauna, including five species of ducks and frogs.
The submissions were lodged in response to an Environmental Impact Statement by developer Tallwood.
Tallwood director David Potter told The Advertiser at the time that the project had been eight years in the planning and all issues except the initial fill were being sorted out with government agencies.
"The fill is a once-off event, and that water is not lost to the river, it becomes an extension to the river," he said.
"Over the long term, there is a positive water balance to the river."
Mr Potter said the developers had a 170 million-litre water licence available which, with run-off and recapturing a subsidiary creek, would offset evaporation losses.
He also said modelling showed salinity levels would be virtually unchanged, 200,000 trees would be planted to extend habitats, and all houses would be built above the 1956 floodwater levels.
"We think this is a win-win . . . the environmental benefits are good and there's a lot of support for this in the local community," Mr Potter said.
"We understand that there is some work to be done in regard to ensuring that the project is sustainable and manageable, and we are definitely committed to that."

Call me a NIMBY, but this is just blatantly insensitive development, given the extraordinary stress the River Murray ecosystem, economy and community is under.

This "user pays" approach seems appropriate and fair...
The marina development company is required to purchase a ~50hectare irrigated water license on the open market (from any farmer willing to sell) prior to completion. Going forward, the property owners will be treated as irrigators and pay for the marina's murray water usage in their rates & taxes.

finally SA will get a 1/4 mile dragstrip! Even if this takes 10 years, it will still probably be open earlier than AIR! For all you drag racing fans, although this isn't the most ideal, it's better than nothing, and certainly better than driving 6 hours the heathcote raceway.

What is the situation with AIR? Is it used at all, or has it simply been left to gather cobwebs? I don't see why the Government should fund a new Adelaide-ish drag strip if an existing one was not sufficiently patronised to keep itself financially viable.

Since AIR has been shut in early '06 there's been nothing but rumours surrounding the place, from it being sold off to developers for new housing estate through to it being fully re surfaced with a new timing board etc. Nothing has ever come to fruition, Bob Jane has just sat on his hands with his head up his arse and let this place to rot. Just like he's done with AIR, he's now closed Calder Park in Melbourne until the end of the year. AIR was originally supposed to only be closing for track maintence, but now it's been about 3 years and nothing. Apart from AIR being arguably the quickest strip in the country due to the fact that it's straighter (all the other tracks have a very slight incline) it's a PITA racing evening meets because the track runs directly east-west and of course you're driving west with the blinding sun in your eyes so you can't see a thing. When they did have a timing board there you couldn't even see it at that time of the evening because of the glare. I wish they would just closed the bloody place down so we can get on with building an all new purpose built facility.

It wasn't closed through lack of patronage, i think intially it was closed to competition racing due to the owner bob jane being sued over a crash that occured at a differant track he owned.(i think this what happened, been awhile since i heard about it an can't remember)
Since then it has been used for off street legal racing but never had any money spent on maitenance and has slowly degraded over time and now i don't know whats going on, i haven't been there for a few years as i haven't heard anything to be on there.
Though having a brief look it seems that the track is currently being upgraded and will be having events including open bracket racing on sooner or later.
Oh and AIR is a cicuit racing track, the drag strip is built on the main straight of the track and isn't a "proper" drag racing facilities so it has limitaions and deficiancies compared to the purpose built drag facilities used in pretty much all other states.

cant they use a portion of circuit for a drag race ?
whats the length of the two ?
