Railyards Site Redevelopment
Railyards Site Redevelopment
There is a lot of discussion in the main development forums about how this area around the railyards and the area between North Terrace and the Torrens should be redeveloped. So I believe it is appropriate to create a new thread related to redevelopment in this section of the forums.
Currently the new $1.7 billion Marjorie Jackson-Nelson Hospital is planned for the railyards adjacent to the corner of Port Road, West Terrace and North Terrace. This only takes up a small section of the area and there is still plenty of opportunity for other areas nearby close to the river (such as north of the rail lines and east of the new hospital site) to be redeveloped in my opinion, even more so now that the new tram line extension has improved accessibility to the area.
This thread is now open for visions and suggestions (lots of images would be great).

A want to see a stadium, expanded convention centre, and new entertainment centre built on the site fitted out with riverfront cafes, bars, boutique shops and utilisation of the lake to incorporate further water activities, eg: Bumper Boats, Rowing, Paddleboats (2nd docking station) etc.

Yeah agreed, they should move the railway rards out to the outer suburbs somewhere, and all rail that is near north tce should be made underground to make the area look more appealing.

I would like Adelaide to be the host of the national Beer Centre of Australia. And I think that the railyards site would be perfect for such a venture.

Re: Railyards Site Redevelopment
I love your plan but i got two questions,
Where are all the train lines?
Where is Adelaide high school?

Re: Railyards Site Redevelopment
One would assume that the railyard is simply 'roofed over' and then everything built ontop of the roof like what already exists over the platforms.
Re: Railyards Site Redevelopment
The train lines would be tunneled upon entering Port Rd (southside) and just as it goes by the Gaol (northside). To have it 'decked' - ala Fed Square would be costly, and I don't know what option is cheaper, but i prefer tunneling.Cruise Control wrote:I love your plan but i got two questions,

Adelaide High School is not in the image, it sits on the SW corner of Bakewell Rd and West Tce.
Re: Railyards Site Redevelopment
That is a great vision Momentkiller, but where is the National Beer Centre?
Re: Railyards Site Redevelopment
looks good. Although I'd rather a riverbank precinct of hotels/appartments, restaurants, bars etc, rather than an exhibition centre.
Re: Railyards Site Redevelopment
Especially as fugly as Perths (in the picture above) other than that, well done momment killer. Great work
I would like to see a interactive science centre included in the redevelopment

Widen the Torrens, Build a stadium, build an amphitheatre (the meeting place for all big events when televised...not a TV screen in Rundle) and a new Entertainment Centre, which houses the 36er's.
Stadium would be 60-70K. It would be interesting to see how a stadium next to the CBD would affect attendances, I would expect a 10-15% increase.

oh god please don't say perths convention centre is that much bigger than ours lol, i like that proposal but i would like to see a stadium (over 60k) and multi purpose arena (tennis, basketball, net ball, entertainment centre, 25k+) and a pedestrian bridge over to a second section of the adelaide convention centre. oh and a southbank style precint along the ENTIRE torrens from adelaide bride to near the goal
