Building over Adelaide Railway Lines.
Buildings over the Adelaide railway lines, Has any of this type of construction started yet in Adelaide anywhere?
Am wondering if Trans Adelaide would be intersted in this type of Development.

Well, there's the convention centre, obviously.
I think a good candidate for a mixed use office, residential and retail development is the area above Keswick Station at the intersection of Anzac Hwy and Greenhill Road. They could upgrade the station while they're at it.

Would you develop on both sides of the line?

Any other places, perhaps where a housing estate and a Shopping centre could be incorporated around the Railway Line.AtD wrote:Why not?

Rod Hook gave an indication Keswick station may be a future TOD.

Elizabeth! When they finally develop on the unused RAAF/DSTO land just west of the railway line, there needs to be med housing and a good pedestrian/retail connection over the line/railway station to properly connect up with Elizabeth City CentreWilfy 2007 wrote:Any other places, perhaps where a housing estate and a Shopping centre could be incorporated around the Railway Line.AtD wrote:Why not?

i often thought that area, a bit further up just near the cemetery would be a good candidate for an inner city sports stadium.AtD wrote:Well, there's the convention centre, obviously.

there are some existing buildings in the area, but nothing than cant be moved elsewhere for no big deal.

Re: Building over Adelaide Railway Lines.
Would it be possible to sink the passenger railway lines near Keswick? Understood it would be difficult to do so with the interstate freight lines, but if it were possible to sink the passenger lines, say from Wayville to the Marj site, Adelaide would gain a huge amount of inner city land for civic developments (stadiums), hotels and residential, all on public transport routes. No idea of the security or engineering issues, sadly.
Re: Building over Adelaide Railway Lines.
The Executive Director of the Office of Major Projects and Infrastructure, Rod Hook, recently identified the area around Keswick to the south of the station as an area that provides on oportunity to effectively develop a Transit Oriented Development. The areas to the west and north of the station are also locations that could provide excellent locations for a TOD as well. Sinking the rail lines and building above may be a good idea, but the process of lowering the tracks may prove expensive and time-consuming. Another suggestion may be to cover the existing rail lines with decks and build above the rail corridor while leaving it intact in its current form.fasterthanlids wrote:Would it be possible to sink the passenger railway lines near Keswick? How about development on these two car parks, over the top of the O-Bahn track? The State Government presumably owns the land. They require the provision of x-thousand park-and-ride spaces as payment for right to develop. The state gets a free car park and we get a new high rise.

Gidday,
Can someone please tell me if the Tubemills Railway Station is still intact?
If it is, would there be any likelihood of building over the Railway Station with a complex of shops and townhouses.
Anybody have any ideas?

Tube Mills station was closed and removed c.1988-1990. It was only ever used by TubeMill workers and was virtually identical to Islington station but with a smaller platform so it wasn't exactly much to look at.

Re: Building over Adelaide Railway Lines.
I've been thinking about this and come up with this idea:
1. Rebuild Goodwood station between the Royal Show and Keswick Barracks and with 4 passenger tracks, and lower all the tracks (and yes fix the stupid drains too).
2. Move Keswick station further south so as to be closer to GWA passenger (train) terminal.
3. Connect new Keswick station to GWA terminal via overhead bridge and ramps.
The new Goodwood station would be in a cutting with overhead bridges and ramps, the remaining area could be built over. If Keswick Barracks were closed this would be a good location for a new stadium or high rise.

Re: Building over Adelaide Railway Lines.
Good afternoon,
Just wondering if there would be any beefit in a New Station at Salisbury, making it a building over the Railway line with a connection to John street. Maybe include retail shops in the building and if there was any room some upmarket homes/townhouses.
