There's a very good reason (beyond sentiment) that it shouldn't: one of the advantages of these smartcards is that they can be used for a lot more than just ticketing.

How about the Cuttlefish Card?

I should fork out for a Melway just to work out which tram to catch for one trip?
And a street directory is hardly as useful as Google Maps. I certainly can't ask the Melway how to get to a place and have it magically tell me.

Which is why, IMO, the notion should be a Federal one.
