Adelaide- The city of Lasers

I had another idea today, infact I thought deeply about it and I reckon it is a swell idea.


Adelaide needs something truelly iconic that other cities dont have. Again I reckon to utilize our hills is something that needs to be done more often.

So my idea involves a festival, or perhaps a night where we have a display, to music (like the skyshow), involving lights and laser, projected from the Hills. People could sit on roofs, find places with good vantage places (and lets be honest, anywhere in Adelaide you can see the hills. Then sit back and watch the hills come alight. A laser/light festival!

Would look insane! And the lasers etc could be reused, so the event would get better each year! The day could be on Australia day, or perhaps even a holiday that doesn't get much attention (labour day or proclamation day?)

Carn people surely this is a good idea?!?!

Hong Kong already has something similar to this, but it's a daily show that runs for about 15 minutes at 8pm every night rather than annual.

We already have a perfectly good light show in the Northern Lights.

Lasers being shot out of the hills would look ridiculous and disrupt locals and air traffic. The hills are a natural environment, and we should be celebrating that rather than using them for a cheap light show.

I like the idea of lasers, however I think the hills are completely unsuitable. I would rather some kind of laser show on the Torrens lake synchronised to music and water fountains.

TBH it sounds like its on danger of being a tacky idea. I also think had the Rundle Lantern been a higher resolution it'd be tackier and less arty-farty.

Do you actually mean from the hills? Or do you mean onto the hills? And where else do you propose projecting it from/onto?

Also to the post about keep the Hills environment rah rah rah. I further propose that part proceeds (if there are any?) go to tree planting on the bare parts of the hills, and regeneration of old mining scars on the hills.

BTW having seen the laser display within the BDO, wow. Would look amazing coming off the Hills in several locations. Grand ideas.

How about we steal Perth's title of the city of lights and fill the whole urban area of Adelaide with lasers pointing at the space station next time it orbits past us?
