CheersParis allows high-rise
July 10, 2008
ONE of the world's most beautiful city skylines could be changed dramatically after a ban on high-rise buildings in Paris was scrapped yesterday.
Plans to build towers of up to 201m at six sites in the French capital will now go to public consultation. Socialist mayor Bertrand Delanoe also wants new apartment blocks to counter a shortage of social housing. The ban on buildings exceeding 37m was introduced in 1977.

Paris goes high-rise

Re: Paris goes high-rise
I think that decision is a bit sad for Paris. I was there earlier in the year and the 'flatness' of Paris helps its feature buildings like the Eiffel Tower stand out.
I would also hate to see some of Paris' classic architecture demolished for the sake of highrise...

Paris does have an area of taller buildings. It's situated in the La Defense area. If they build more taller buildings there I don't think it would be an issue tbh.

By putting this into a free internet translator I got the translation "Not in my rear course." Looks we have a new word for the people of North Adelaide and things like APPA

Mon Dieu! Paris is fantastic. It doesn't need high(er) rise in the central region to be great. It has an amazing mix of old and new architecture and a metro system that works. For all their supposed conservative views, they have some pretty amazing buildings. My only criticism was the McDonalds was too dear.Somebody wrote:Let's see how this pans out. In Paris you should not be eating McDonalds!

Yes thank you. English Breakfast with milk (full-cream - none of that low-fat poppycock here) and no sugar, and Beerenberg plum jam. How very kind!Cruise wrote:tea and crumpets?

And shall we give those natives a thrashing? (Whilst we drink our gin my dear boy?)
