Illuminations (Video heavy post)

#1 Post by monotonehell » Sat Nov 15, 2008 3:19 am

The recent opening of the Rundle Lantern has inspired to look abroad for other examples of illuminated structures...

Kunsthaus (Graz, Austria)
Stop laughing Kunsthaus is German for Arthouse (what we'd call an art gallery). This building is an interesting structure -- an alien UFO-esque form by day...
Image

But by night an array of common circular fluros as you might find behind a light fitting turns the skin of the building into a monochrome canvas...

Agbar Tower (Barcelona, Spain)
Excuse the horrid musica as we countdown to NYE 2007 with the help of the LED array on the rather phallic Agbar Tower...

Uniqa Tower (Vienna, Austria)
Again a mesh of LEDs gives the Uniqa Tower in Vienna a light show...

Dexia Tower (Brussels, Belgium)
Less art and more text...

Any others of merit?

this building (on the right) in downtown Shanghai has fake fireworks that extend the height of the building, presumably using LEDs. Looks quite impressive:

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

The Uniqa Tower is quite fascinating!

It'd be great to have these sorts of installations on the buildings surrounding Victoria Square; in fact, it occurs to me that the MLC building particularly lends itself to something of the sort.

The "Transformed Flower" in Kansas City is an illuminated sculpture in their "Victoria Square" that might be a model
for a similar sculpture here in Vic Square, or by the Torrens, or in place of the Hajek concrete ...

Chicago's Millenium Park has the Crown Fountain, an interesting combination of fountains with reflecting pools and LEDs embedded in glass bricks. Think water feature meets digital picture frame:
