Which happen to include Brisbane's next two upcoming tallest buildings (270m and 262m tall)! Both are currently still in the ground, although one is now at ground level now.

Are they both apartment buildings? Do you know how much taller they are than the existing tallest?

Both are apartment buildings. The current tallest building in Brisbane is Infinity Tower at 249m, so these will be around 15-20m taller.

The "pits"..is that part of the design, ie basement levels? Or is it a requirement up there because of the river or soil type, or because of the height/size of the buildings?
Given we don't have or see buildings that tall here in Adelaide, let alone pits that deep(not that I'm aware of anyway), would be interesting to know..

Basement is there partly by requirement for car parking space, and partly by soil/geotech requirements - the stuff up top is fairly loose and crappy material whereas down the bottom the rock is very solid and strong. 7 basement levels in total for parking and other building services.
