The final Newspoll was 1,600, which is quite a large sample. 52-48 to the Liberals.

Let's just hope the swing is not uniform.
why?

If Greg Kelton of the Advertiser is a reliable weathervane, it is interesting to see that he appears to be moving his allegiance away from years of supporting Mike Rann towards anointing Mr Peter Manilauskas of the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association as 'Labor's brightest rising star'.

Mr Manilauskas replaced Don Farrell as boss of the SDA, or Shoppies - South Australia's largest union - and according to Kelton has taken on Farrell's role as Labor's kingmaker. So far, Manilauskas has installed his sister Elizabeth in a senior political role and elevated his young brother Rob from a lowly position as a junior journalist at the Advertiser to a senior government media appointment.

It's also interesting to watch the TV coverage of the election, with only a few percent counted as I write, on which Kevin Foley seems to be doing his best to come across as the soul of reasonableness. His carefully measured and polite performance in my opinion suggests that if Labor loses this election and the party conducts its traditional summary execution of the losing leader, then Foley is positioning himself as the steady hand on the wheel who should take over the Labor leadership in preference to his likely leadership opponent Jay Weatherill.

One thing that is clear this early in the night is the swing is not uniform between any two given seats. It's not how big the swing is, but where it occurs, that counts.

It's going to be a long night.

It's also refreshing to watch the ABC's take on SA politics, especially with Kerry O'brien hosting. Contrast with the joke that is the Tiser's coverage. I logged onto their stream and they had a cross dresser outside parliament. :?

At 37% counted, it looks like 24 ALP, 19 Lib and 3 Indies.

Gamers for Croydon are looking at 4% of the primary vote in Croydon, part of a 12% primary vote swing against Atkinson.

Tonight has confirmed three age old clichés about elections:

- Newspapers make everything look like a tight race
- There's only one poll that counts
- The bookies call elections correctly more often than anyone else

It's going to be a sea of cranes on the Riverside foreshore with the new Royal Adelaide Hospital, Convention and Exhibition Centres, Medical Research Institute, and Torrens footbridge in the coming years.

We have a bright future ahead of us.
