Expedia.com.au rates Majestic Roof Garden Hotel best in Australia

AN Adelaide hotel which features a roof-top garden has been rated the best in the country by a popular global online travel group.

In its third year, the Expedia Insiders Select list puts Adelaide's Majestic Roof Garden Hotel as Australia's top hotel and 24th in the world.

Expedia.com says there are four times as many Australian hotels in its top 1,000 favourites list this year than in previous years.

There are 21 Australian hotels in the latest list joining the world's elite.

Number one in the world is Canada's Chateau Beauvallon in Quebec, followed by Japan's Prince Park Tower in Tokyo and Portugal's Viva Marinha Hotel & Suites in Cascais.

"The fact that Australian hotels have more than quadrupled their presence on this year's Insiders Select list confirms our belief that Australia offers world-class accommodation," Expedia.com.au marketing manager Louise Crompton said.

"(It) shows that international travellers are impressed by both the quality and value of the accommodation they find in our country."

The Expedia Insiders Select list is compiled using the feedback from hundreds of thousands of its customers, combined with insights from its network of experts worldwide.

General manager of Majestic Hotels Eoin Loftus said the recognition was a perfect fifth birthday present for the hotel.

"The success of the Majestic Roof Garden Hotel ... motivates us even more to further expand, with our next project being the 281-room Majestic Vertical Garden Hotel on Hindley St," he said.
