Adelaide to get 7-Elevens

#1 Post by jordan85 » Thu May 27, 2010 5:05 pm

Anyone hear in the news that 7-eleven has bought Mobil? This includes Mobil's 30 odd remaining SA stores which presumably would be converted to 7-elevens.

The South Australian Mobil outlets will be operated by Peregrine Corporation under the local 'On The Run' brand. From Glam Adelaide:
Glam Adelaide wrote:The Shahin family who own Peregrine Corporation, one of Australia’s top 50 private companies, are pleased to announce the proposed acquisition of Mobil’s retail network in South Australia.

Peregrine Corporation is a family owned retail business based in South Australia that owns and operates convenience stores that offer fuel, under its “On the Run” brand.

The intention is to convert each Mobil store in SA to an On The Run.

On the Run stores are recognised for their unique multi-offer formats with many brands represented in the same location. Brands represented on site include C Coffee, Subway, Brumby’s Bakeries and Happy Wash.

The proposed acquisition is related to a broader deal announced today between 7-Eleven Stores Pty Ltd and Mobil Oil Australia Pty Ltd for Mobil’s national retail network. Peregrine has contracted with 7-Eleven to acquire the 29 South Australian stores. This is currently scheduled for October 2010.

Peregrine Corporation Executive Director, Yasser Shahin said: “On the Run started with a single service station purchased by my father, Fred Shahin in 1984. Today we serve approximately 20 million customers every year. Our success is primarily due to our culture and people that work within the business, particularly the ownership taken by teams on site to deliver our ‘promise’ to our guests that visit the stores. I am very focused on making the transition to our team as easy as possible for existing Mobil employees and our plans and resourcing around the new business have that as the priority.

Millions are expected to be spent on upgrading the petrol stations.

Though there has been a stuff up with this, there is over 50+ Mobile outlets throughout Adelaide and regional areas, so maybe its just the metro outlets that will be affected.

This will create more jobs as Mike Rann will say. While the small businesses will struggle to survive.
Do yourself a favour and come to South Australia.

The more convenience 24/7 outlets we have in the city and metropolitan area are probably more likely change people's opinions about trading hours and push the case for further deregulation. That's a good thing.

Never thought I'd see the day we get a 7-11. Good ol' Adelaide's growing up.
My understanding is that they won't actually be 7-Elevens, they'll be On The Runs.

Yep, they'll be On the Runs in SA.
I guess interstate where 7-11 operates, they'll be re-branded as 7-11.

I very rarely visit On The Run's during the daytime, but they are incredibly useful late at night/early morning if you need to grab something to eat.

I believe one of the reasons why 'On The Runs' are so successful is due to Adelaide's ridiculous trading hours.

Sounds wrong. Coffee made from someone who has the runs doesn't sound very tasty.

Not to be rude, but have you ever been overseas? Adelaide's trading hours aren't THAT ridiculous. I lived in Lisbon, the CAPITAL of Portugal, for three months and would often find most of the shopping areas shut after 5. Forget getting anything on Sunday after a certain time. That included supermarkets and smallish 7-11 type places. Adelaide may have conservative shopping hours, but they are hardly "ridiculous".

AIUI OnTheRun have already taken over all the BP stations in Adelaide. If they're taking over the Mobil ones as well, which company will they get their fuel from?
