i managed to only erected a block representing the building, but doesn't know how to do the detailing on the surfaces, examples, poles, windows, roof-arches, pillars.

Find out how to create components... that'll help you get details onto surfaces like windows.
So e.g. Windows.. draw a square on one of the walls on your building, double click it and create a component. Now your square (aka window) will appear in the components tab, and you can reuse that window everywhere. It's all about reusing stuff rather than redoing it from scratch.
Also see if you can get a bit of material on the surface.. start by finding the type of material you want.. so try brick (and find a red brick) on the materials tab and then throw a bit of red brick on one of your walls. Once you get the hang of that, you can play with custom surfaces (e.g. phototexturing).
The video tutes are invaluable too.. i learnt heaps from them.
Btw, edgar, i will be doing a couple of Kuching models next year when i go there. Already have the Kuching 3D warehouse set up at Google. Maybe you can give me a hand at doing some of the great architecture there.. e.g. convention centre, kuching airport, friendship gardens etc.

love you to do the beehive corner building - surely a challenge?
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Thanks guys.
Norman.. yep that's with the new glass, i repeated the lower 3 floors which have already been done. When the refit is complete i'll come back and retexture it.

Remember if you like any of these models, please rate them in the google link.. that way they'll end up on Google Earth Best of 3D Warehouse layer for everyone in the world to see.
Re: #Google Earth- Update (41comp, 2u/c)
Nowadays you have to photomatch everything for it to be included into the Best of 3D Warehouse layer, admittedly you could get into more details but once the polygon count starts soaring you'll end up with a pretty model that'll never get included into the Best of layer (like what happened with the Adelaide Railway Station). I did create balconies though
