Is there any update on this project? Its past Feb and I have not seen much happen.

Also does anyone have any old pics of the inside?
I notice there is a sign saying "Colonial Arcade". Was this once a shopping arcade or something different?

Very small arcade that went from the entrance you saw to the back corner of Gilbert Place. Had a few small shops in there, snake bar, hairdresser, etc.

I'm guessing this one is on hold again? How frustrating given this intersection probably has the highest foot traffic, both day and night of any in Adelaide and yet for the past 10 years we have an eyesore on one side and on the other, a vacant building covered in hoardings and graffeti.

GET ON WITH IT!!!!!!!!!

Someone on these forums suggested council should have the power to lean on developers if nothing happens within 12-18 months of purchase. I can think of at least 6 cbd sites where this applies, all prominent.

Looks like it's been compromised. Checking the source, an iframe pointing to a dodgy russian site has been inserted.

Adelaide CBD to get Mayfair Hotel, sporting 170 luxury suites, bar and restaurant

THE transformation of the heritage-listed Colonial Mutual Life building into a boutique hotel will soon kick off, with a builder selected and a name chosen.

The Mayfair Hotel will accommodate 170 luxury suites following a $35 million redevelopment to be led by Watpac Construction.

The 1930s building, on the corner of King William and Hindley streets, will also feature a bar and restaurant, high-end retail and an executive lounge with connected outdoor terrace on the upper floor.

Watpac state manager Tim Tape said the contract was significant for the company as it continued its South Australian expansion following work on the $75 million Adelaide Airport car park and upgrade project.

So the hotel will be run by Adabco, the same people behind the Hutt Street/South Terrace proposal?

Work is set to start in September (only a few weeks away!) and run for 16 months or so. Done by xmas 2013. I'm truly excited by this project. Will look fantastic as you walk out of Rundle Mall to see this neo-gothic building restored to full glory with a bejeweled extension and high end retail on the ground floor.

From Watpac website - July 25:
Construction on site is scheduled to commence in September with design and documentation works commencing immediately.
