Interesting... is that the corner of Wakefield and Pulteny Street? I know there is a Bridgestone there and a few old buildings... sounds interesting.

Long time lurker, 1st post. Given this site is just around the corner from me I thought I would have a look.

It's the site on the corner of Roper Street & Wakefield Street, a block up from the Pulteney Street corner. Directly across the road from the fire station.
102 is the building with the restaurant on the corner, and next to it is an old petrol station that's now an "eco-wash"

Is there any more details on what's in the DA? I tried to find it on the council website, but not having much luck.

wow this will be a good sized development for that part of the city. i went passed there yesterday thinking it should be redeveloped seeing its very close to the CBD core and is very underutilised. Hopefully it is a well designed building. i'll have to wait and see the renders. cheers

Hasn't that restaurant just been tizzied up and re-opened? And the Eco-Wash has only been open a couple of months too.

I like the sound of the office tower. This part of Wakefield St is a real dead zone. The area is currently dominated by car park buildings. It would be disappointing to see another car park constructed in this area. They generally detract from the street activity and streetscape. Even well designed car parks such as HJ's on Rundle St are an eyesore.

If there is no carparks, then theres no street activity

What a load of rubbish Crawf.

Adelaide already has an over supply of carparks with one of the highest no. per capita in the world.

The amount of street level activity is typically inversely proportional to the number of carparks in a city.

No its not rubbish, how do most people come to the city?. They drive, and they park.

If carparks didnt help street activity, then why is there so many multilevel carparks around Rundle Mall, Rundle Street, Gouger St and Hindley Street?. As for open air carparks, I'm not a fan of of them because they are ugly and ruin the streetscape

from the City Messenger:
Office design will mix old and new

Chris Day

21Aug07

A $90 MILLION office and car park development with room for about 1000 workers is planned for Wakefield St, opposite the city fire station.

A joint application was lodged with the City Council this month by developers George Kambitsis and the PT Group.

It details a 10-storey office block and a 680-bay public car park, with access via Roper St.

The site at 102-120 Wakefield St, currently housing popular Italian cafe Feliciano's and a car washing business, would be demolished.

A heritage-listed former blacksmith's workshop, in Roper St, would form part of the new building.

``It's a very European response to melting heritage with a new building,'' Mr Kambitsis said this week.

``The idea is to encase the (blacksmith's) building in glass and engrave its history on the glass.''

The development has been designed to reach a five star green rating.

It approved, it would be built in stages with work on the car park expected to start by mid-2008 and the office block soon after, subject to finding a major tenant.

Meanwhile, ground work started this month on a nine-storey office block over Gouger St's black hole the site of the former South Adelaide Creche.

That project, also by Mr Kambitsis, is expected to be finished by October 2008.

Law firm Thomson Playford will lease half of the building.
I'm still trying to work out the Render it doesn't make sense location wise.. Think it's from Roper St looking towards Wakefield so I think it would actually look better on Wakefield not sure why they used that render.
