I don't know how you missed this one Ben! I hope you don't mind me stepping on your terrain by posting this.

A development application for 139a-140 North Terrace for 2, 18 level student accomodation buildings will come before the final ACC DAP meeting this coming Monday, where it will receive planning approval.

The buildings will be built over a 2 level podium, which will include cafe and retail at the ground level.

The architect for the developemnt if Woods Bagot.

Yes it may appear that way, however this is the thread with an actual proposal, the other is more like a speculative thread, so they are somewhat different. However the moderators may want to merge them if they see fit.

The Festival City Hotel currently sits on the site of the proposed building.

There is a building from the early 20th century, which is around 5 levels high and looks similar to the building immediately to the east of the proposal.

It's not my most favourite design in the world. Little square windows have never really won me over, nor all these bars across other windows. That said, hurrah for the absence of green glass, and the addition of extra height to the skyline is never a bad thing.

I hope Parlamento moves back into the corner tenancy, too. Nice food, there.

That looks pretty slick. Could have been taller, but considering there's two conjoined buildings of equal height in the project... should look pretty modern and elegant when completed, and bulk up that (fairly central) area pretty nicely.
Now you're playing with power.

is it just me, or do parts of the western facade look like they are exposed concrete?

Wow that is damn nice for student accommodation. A lot of glass in the design too, although I am guessing the eastern elevation will be mostly concrete. Also that height diagram looks weird. I reckon they are trying to under-do the height in that diagram. This will add some much needed modern architecture into this part of our skyline.

Thats look nice, great to hear about the 2 level podium with shops and cafes.

Hopefully this and Octogan will boast Hindley Street.

Awesome find! It'll be a great addition to the area, right on the tram line and all. I've added this to the map. Will, do you mind if I post it on SSC?

The developer is Caxton Pacific P/L
