For comparison, here's the last concept we saw:

It's all by the same architect Woods bagot. they have designed the other 14 level waymouth st tower with pods too. maybe we should send them a letter - enough of the pods already.

Dreaded Western elevation (very poor considering half of it abuts a street):

Oh god; that western elevation is frightful. Why did they give the design job to the only staff member with a white cane?

Why is it we only get second best????
As mentioned, this is a premium city block. If Harbo and the ACC are serious about Vic Square, then they should now being asking for buildings of the highest Architectural design to be built around the outskirts. If they are serious about Vic Sq being a focal point of the city!
Surely they can come up with a much better 'green' building than this.

im assuming most buildings are like this though. Street, or lane frontage has windows, but if another building is built 1 mtr west next to it, then the wall wont be visible from western Adelaide

The thing is this western wall does have street frontage, which is why it doesn;t make sense.

ah, i see what you mean. I gather it wraps around that nice old building on the corner, and then a bit of the back part fronts onto Bentham St. Well that is odd that its a wall

Basically the left portion of the western wall has a large services duct running up the entire height of the building. This should instead be placed with the core which is to the right. Western elevations are difficult when it comes to green office buildings because of the afternoon sun (being at a lower angle). SA Water is doing a great job with the second glass wall that will go up soon. Santos did a poor job with the awful louvres to the west and now we have CC1 (huge blank wall) and CC8 (huge blank wall). These blank walls are a lazy way to increase a buildings sustainability rating. The ACC should ensure they redesign it to include glass over at least the left portion of the western wall. Otherwise the western skyline of Adelaide will end up looking shocking.

If they do have to retain the blank walls don't dare let it be exposed concrete. They should do what JPE architects have done on the Gilles/King William Street proposal and introduce a random checkerboard effect for the blank walls to break it up. This adds visual interest and makes it appear more modern.

I am speechless with rage. This is a huge wasted opportunity. The building is a monstrosity. Calling it ugly is a compliment. And there has to be a more attractive way to make building's green star rated rather that solely putting giant and vile blank concrete walls. To sum it up: :wank: , , & :x

Get rid of all the pods and fix the western elevation and it would at least look average. At the moment it looks terrible. It just doesn't sit right. One part that is really getting to me is that pod sticking out of the eastern elevation but that is flush with the southern elevation (ugly to the max). Surely Woods Baggot can do better than this shocking design.

Pods are highly distasteful IMO - they break up any impression of continuity of height - needs street cantilevers, blank western wall a worry, unless high quality artwork andor neon signs break it up. OK overall.

Is there some psychologically dreaded 17/18 floor barrier in Adelaide? I seem to remember in the eighties that 18 floor level bldgs were al you could get - except near the black stump which was officially to be the highest of the lot.
