The Hanging Gardens of Babylon come to Adelaide!!
The design is simple, yet bold, innovative and might I even say... daring for this part of Adelaide... We welcome it!

VERY impressive bldg. Looking forward to seeing this one built. Will complement Currie St well!
Hope the current tourist problems don't stop it.

This is a blod, but great, new direction of Adelaide architecture. I too hope for approval.

Here's the larger version.
Is the 81m height to structure or to roof?

Better than expected, and reminscent of the SA Water building on Grenfell Street (sloping roof), which I'm a little surprised nobody has mentioned. Like many proposals, this baby better go up... and soon! But residential buildings usually start construction sooner than commercial, don't they?

Not bad; not bad at all. The rooftop feature is particularly interesting, especially if it is glassed-in and contains the so-called vertical garden. Are those windows I see on the north face, too? That's good to see, because I imagine that view to be quite prominent from Light's Vision, and nothing would be more upsetting than just a big blank wall. Compliments to Majestic for trying something different.
My Emporis browsing tells me that 81m sits neatly in-between the Hyatt and Hooker House (87m and 75m, respectively). That's a fine addition to the skyline.

i wonder why the slope is facing south? would be much better to have it face north to bring all day sunshine to the balconies.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

This is incredible, I love it. So unique compared to our standard glass boxes.
[CAN] Re: #Proposed: 64-68 Hindley Street 22lvl 81m Hotel
oh gawd, the slope looks like something out of 1980s Bangkok or Gold Coast. Im not a fan, but Id like to see some more renders first
[CAN] Re: #Proposed: 64-68 Hindley Street 22lvl 81m Hotel
I'd imagine that the slope facing towards the south would be because of the ACC height restrictions imposed on Hindley Street. It is this (unfortunate) limitation that gives Spark88 it's shape as well.Wayno wrote:i wonder why the slope is facing south? would be much better to have it face north to bring all day sunshine to the balconies.

haha its like a mini version of the Deutsche Bank in Sydney:

I hate it.
*ducks*
I think this 'steps' business looks a bit 80's and dated, myself.
I much prefer the sleek curves of the Currie Street tower, than the hard boxy look of this one.
Will reserve judgement until I see more renders, particularly of the opposite angle, but from this render I'm not a fan at all.

See, the DB building is triangular done well... I think ours is triangular done badly... it's a worry when something seems dated before it's even been built.
(by the way, the DB building in Sydney is brilliant inside too... glass walls and lifts, so as you're going up, you can see what's happening on each floor. Fantastic views of the bay from the top floors, too)

There's certainly a lot of Burswood Casino going on, but the one thing that saves it for me is that we don't have anything else like it. Were Adelaide already teeming with similar buildings from the late '80s that obviously aged this new proposal, I wouldn't be particularly excited, but the fact that the design is fairly unique for our city makes it somewhat more acceptable.
