On a cold and grey Chicago mornin'
A poor little baby child is born
In the ghetto
And his mama cries

Couldn't we manage something more like Inner Visions?

Pun completely intended.

Actually I recently had a few days in Chicago and the CBD is really nice.

I mean REALLY nice, even on the South Side, and even taking into consideration the junkyard dogs.

So it could be a worse architectural place to follow.

Anyway, maybe the renders are not that great but we urgently need more people living in the city and not all accommodation developments will be 5 star.

Here you go:

Image
Its not the best looking complex, but I am sorta starting to like it. Though the developer should definitely look at erecting a large billboard on the first building considering its such a high profile site and you would be able to see the billboard driving up Sir Donald Bradman Drive. Makes perfect sense really

At least two good things about this project is its going to bring much needed height and people to the area. Is there going to be blank walls on the eastern side?

On a side note, Hungry Jacks/Shell is such a horrid building hope its goes very soon.

That's not a building - that's a tent.

I'm more concerned with the woman in the foreground left. The one with the stripy stockings and orange tie died shorts... Now THERE'S vibrancy!

With the success of the BP on the run complex further towards HQ, i would not be suprised if shell was to close down in the near future.

Regarding the development and possible closure of shell/hungry jacks, say a developer comes alongs and proposes building a 374-400 KWS style development on this site. Imagine the blank wall between buildings 1 -2-3 of Freedom apartments if a building goes up. The eastern wall would need to be blank as it banks on to a neighbouring property, hence my arguement of shadowing and pure ugliness, for lack of a better word...!

Apparently not, sadly.

Chicago's great. In my head, I was more focusing on the song title.

Grote (variant of groat) brings freedom, but rarely as we anticipate. Quite apt me thinks...
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

I'm actually visiting there in a couple of weeks...
When I see the words Arbeit Macht Frei my first thought will be West Terrace/Grote Street now.

Back on topic - still not a fan.
The blank walls facing West Terrace are awful - granted, the Shell may disappear at some point and a new building may block the apartments out, but surely there a better treatment can be used in the mean time given how prominent a site it is.
