Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
EB Games in City Cross is one of four stores in SA to meet its end.
The other three are at Harbortown, Hallet Cove and Brickworks Marketplace.

I'm genuinely surprised that Edwardstown and Sefton Plaza aren't part of these closures, they have always been dead whenever I've gone through either centre. The Scooter Guy wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2020 7:20 pmEB Games in City Cross is one of four stores in SA to meet its end.

Because you can just download pretty much every single video game online now?

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
It’s only 4 stores out of 27 in SA. In areas with duplicate stores or low traffic areas not a big issue at all.
Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
Bardot is closing so manny of their stores... is the city store going to be affected?
Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
All SA stores will be closing. Only some of Vic and Nsw will remain.

Curious Planet (ex Australian Geographic retail stores) has also announced they are closing all stores over the coming weeks.

It’s not a big space but sure is prime. Any word on who will replace them at this stage?

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
Piracy and DRM is killing the physical games market.
People just steal games by downloading from torrent sites.
Major companies like Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, Blizzard, Rockstar Games, Ubisoft and EA Games have been using DRM to ensure that only legitimate consumers who have paid for the software and in some cases, have an user ID are allowed to play it.
Do you remember Tron Evolution for the PC? Since October 2019, Disney has stopped using SecuROM which the software depends on to be activated, thus rendering the game essentially unplayable and no longer merchantable.

It's no piracy.. the vast majority of pirates wouldn't buy the games if they couldn't pirate. Physical media is dead because it hasn't kept up with the rapid pace of games development. Most AAA games now need 50-100gb updates as soon as you install them. The Scooter Guy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2020 10:49 amPiracy and DRM is killing the physical games market.

They can have a substantial impact on Fair Use Rights (...allows Limited Use of Copyrighted Material regardless of age without requiring permission or membership to the present rights holders e.g. for Commentary, Criticism, News Reporting, Education, Public Exhibition, Reference, Preservation, Archival, etc.)
Future Generations coming through would not be able to play a game that they like (of 10 Years or more for instance) due to its DRM servers shutting down.
All games in such a format are part of history and when they're gone, they're Gone For Good.

Re: News & Discussion: CBD Retail
The rest of the corner where the Telstra Shop used to be is now being fit out for a 'Sushi Hub', and looks like it might be double height.
Also, the old Country Road store and recent Uggs shop is now being gutted. I hope they repair or replace the awning for whoever takes its place (it looks really run down).
