I think it is good that Woods Bagot got this contract. Considering they designed the 2001 convention centre (in association with SOM), and the new SAHMRI, this will ensure that the entire precinct looks cohesive.

I'd bet it'll be a newer re-hash of the existing convention centre design, give or take a few elements here and there.

well we won't be waiting long to find out - the concept plans are due for release in March!
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

i found what looks like a concept design at this site (http://milimet.com/2010/12/adelaide-con ... ssell.html). Even though it looks recent, i dont think it was official.

gives an idea of what "might" happen, will have to wait until March for the real thing:

Nearmap latest photomaps (Jan 3) for Adelaide have just been published.

The Convention Centre, Riverbank, HRMI development and Adelaide Oval look good now. This precinct should be stunning once the redevelopment/new developments are in place.

Great architecture spoilt by silly heritage laws or stubborn council in regards to those unsightly rowing sheds.

Seems like that was a proposal put forward by Hassell as part of the open design competition.

I think it's amazing. And the green roof is a brilliant idea I think - It blends the best that Adelaide has to and will continue to offer with its track record of hosting exceptional convention and exhibition facilities with the natural beauty of our parklands which can serve to double up as a unique events space for the city.

I can only hope that will be the design built. The curvatures work so well with the existing centre, and will continue a similar architectural theme as seen in SAHMRI.

Let's see what Woods Bagot comes up with compared with Hassell's design.

That Nth Tce one looks very impressive - looks liked one end of Nth Tce is heritage and the other is going very modern to say the least. Hope all the lightin g comes with it. The front looks like glass with big info screens inside. Yeh, I know, just an impression - but what an impression!

People, please read the entire last page.

Those images are NOT the latest designs for the convention centre. They are a competition entry by Hassell.

Woods Bagot has won the tender to design the new convention centre. Their proposal will come out in march.

Either way those rowing sheds need to be demolished and relocated somewhere else along the Torrens River

I'm not saying this design is a bad one. It's quite ok. But I guess I am hoping for a real KAPOW legacy for Adelaide. The river precinct is arguably one of the most important redevelopments to get right I think. It needs something fairly spectacular that has people in other states saying 'hey you know that place on the river in Adelaide...that's a good spot.' I have to admit, I personally would like to see some classy restaraunts/shopping. A nice laid back night spot without clubs. Ideally I'd like to see a nice social spot, devoid of motor vehicle traffic and pissed revellers. Preferably with close and adequate (including cheap) parking. (Went to the travel expo on the weekend and paid twelve bucks for less than 30 minutes!)
